Tony Pass Rim
Tone is subjective for sure, I chose to leave my Stelling as is .....it's a 1981 Whitestar with the original block rim. Seems like everytime I hear someone say change over to the TP rim, someone else will say it ain't worth it, especially if you like the way your banjo sounds now. I love the Sunflow...

Upright bass in Houston area.....
I've got my upright rig ready to roll if anyone needs a UB player in the Houston/Conroe area. I'm good for most classic country stuff; I don't listen to a lot of radio and have no interest in Top40/Pop/Contemporary country. I don't play a lot of slap stuff (although I may do more when I get my guts ...

I ain't scared. I carry my Pro Reverb in an oversize roadcase (had it made to fit any Fender amp). That Pro is loaded with old Altecs with magnets that look like syrup buckets and it's heavy.....I don't have any problems with it. It's all about the tone, I carry my stuff about a minute tops.....I ha...

I had a George L's 10-1 in my LeGrande 'til tonight. I didn't like it and a fella asked if I would sell it; so I told him I would. I've used E-66s on a couple of my guitars as well.........I've pretty much been less than satisfied with the tone I get from George L's p/ups. Anyhow, I took the s/c out...

Well, I have one problem knocked out......after gettin' our new mains, we looked in the cabs at the JBLs and they're 16ohms.......the load should be no problem......if I decide to pursue this idea, I'll let y'all know how it comes out.

I had a filter cap go out one night (thankfully it was during a practice). It went quick and there was no mistaking the smell.....it's kinda like brakes burning, once you smell it you know what it is. At any rate, I always keep spare caps, tubes etc... I popped some caps in while everyone else smoke...

If it's a Twin Reverb...you can rule out the rectifier tube right away. No way it could be that. If it was a cap you could probably smell it. Even if there's no smell, I'd have to look at the filter caps to start with.....if it's gone you can see it when you take the chassis outta the cab and look a...

Twins have a 4ohm tranny bOb; if you added a dummy load to bring it down to a 4ohm load, would you have the amp operating where it's supposed to be? My question is (and was addressed by Jerry up there); what's wrong with running say 2 of the speakers out of the speaker jack and two out of the ext. s...

Bob, I think you may have mis-read what I wrote, I said Buck schooled him, I didn't say he taught him how. I think it was more of Buck showing Don what he was lookin' for in his sound. One thing about it, Buck could play his ass off.....to say Don played over his head is being a little too kind I th...

I'm a long way from schooled in Buck-ology, but it was my understanding that Don was not the guitar player we all know when he met up with Buck.......Buck schooled him some on the guitar end of it. Buck had already been layin' that sound down in the studio for other artists before Don came along. I ...

I can get Will Dykes (Armadillo Amp Works in Austin) to build me a cab for probably about $300.00. I have access to 4-JBL 12s that won't cost me anything. All I need is a Twin Reverb chassis (usually pretty cheap on eBay). My question: (I never was good at ohms) how do I wire the 4 JBLs at 8ohm to c...

Waco vs. Arlington
I'd like to hear from you folks who are into MCI steels the differences between Waco and Arlington models. I know some of it (welded frames blah, blah), but would like to know more. I've had a nice fella offer an MCI Waco (Black 8&4) for $1,000.00 + shipping. I don't really know much about 'em a...
