I think you may have mis-read what I wrote, I said Buck schooled him, I didn't say he taught him how. I think it was more of Buck showing Don what he was lookin' for in his sound.
One thing about it, Buck could play his ass off.....to say Don played over his head is being a little too kind I think: I do think Don's tone beat Buck's hands down. If you don't think Buck was every bit as fast and tasty as Don....go get "The Instrumental Hits Of Buck Owens And His Buckaroos" and listen to some of Buck's handywork on the Tele.
