Larry Self

Jeffrey: Love this post! I was working overseas in the 92-95 time frame but on my leave time I used to drive up to DeBary and hang out at Larry’s store. That black Emmons in your first picture I bought from him in 1993 and still have it to this day. I think of Larry every time I sit down to play. He...

I recommend purple or blue. Both are removable with standard hand tools. NEVER RED! Waaaaaaay to tough to break loose.

Steel Jam extinction

Ok, I’ll probably get flamed and slammed but here’s my $0.02 worth. My experience as an audience member and steel player, I went to hear the players really stretch out. On more than one occasion at the jams I attended, when the picker kicked off a jazzy tune on C6, there were moans from the audience...

Larry was a great guy! I used to make a point of visiting his store everytime I came out on leave. I still have the black 1993 Legrande I bought from him.

A good friend and is greatly missed.

that '90's Black Emmons Larry is playing

Jeffery: I bought that guitar (a '93) from Larry in late 1993 from his DeBary store and still have it. I was stationed on Ascension Island at the time and every trip stateside, I made a point to drop by and visit the store. I loved hanging out and chatting with Larry. I love that ol' Emmons and will...

1980's Sierra Crown U-12 Keyless

I bought this guitar several years ago with intentions of making an extended E9th. Too many other priorities and a heavy dedication to my Emmons and it stayed in the case. It needs a little TLC and a clean-up. Needs a new switch on the end plate but is playable with a tweak. Looks for a straight tra...

I am going to be on Kauai from March 30 until 5 April 2014 and was wondering if there are any places to go to head some steel guitar while on the island.

Any suggestions?

The "Zone"

I love it when it clicks like that. I was playing with a group I had never picked with before but enjoyed. The singer called for the Seger tune "Like a Rock" and off we went. He turned for me to take the solo and after the first couple bars, we were in the pocket and it was GREAT! The sing...

Okay, check this out you guys. Christmas morning, my wife, Kate, and I were exchanging gifts when she game me a fair sized wrapped box. It was light, but one never knows.
