Kelly Willis - http://www.kellywillis.com/ She is from around the Austin area, somewhere. She is married to Bruce Robison. I've heard her on the radio and liked what I heard. Here is why I am asking the question. The place I work at in Austin is giving free lunchtime concerts in Sept. On the same da...

Kelly Willis - steel?

Does anyone know if Kelly Willis has a steel player in her band? I have a chance to see her for free, but it is a choice between her and the Derailers (also for free, it is a work thing). The Derailers are not going to be nearly as close, though. I've seen the Derailers before, they are great. Never...

I heard Ricky playing the Fulawka back when he was still playing with Dale, and man, what a great sounding steel. You could hear every note, but it wasn't loud. Absolutely great tone.
Now, the driver has something to do with that :-) , but still, what a great sounding steel!

Pine. You are supposed to use void free southern yellow pine, but I just go to home depot and buy the better, clear pine - no knot holes. I've built a bunch of cabinets. I did a kit tweed deluxe recently, made the cab to the same specs as the originals, out of home depot pine. Worked great. By the w...

What Jim said. GREAT guitar club and recording amp. I put a Weber alnico speaker in, great county tele sound. It is a little mid rangy for steel. Part of that is the 6V6's, too.

When I get some time I will tear it apart and rebuild it more like a twin. This will help alot, tracing wires can be a nightmare! ;-)

Brett - I would like a schematic, if you have one. Since it would appear to be not a lot different than a BF twin, it would probably be an easy mod. I'm not crazy about the tone stack, so changing that would be the first to go. The reverb is pretty bad, but I've used a holy grail in front of it, and...

Interesting project. I have one of these amps, sounds like the same one. Good sound but I was thinking about getting into it and modding it. Are you going to build it up like a fender twin? Using the same transformers and such? I'd be interested on what you do and what results you have. Do you have ...

I had to comment on this. I am right handed, but both of my guitar playing brothers were lefty's and play that way. I've tried playing left handed, and can not do it. I feels completely wrong. Some lefty's can do things right handed - one of these brothers does write right handed, but others can't. ...

Hey Ricky, are you talking about that Sho-Bud amp you sold me? I didn't think those were JBL's in there, they did look like no name brand, but I'd have to get another look. I retubed that thing with tubes from eurotube.com, and, man, it sounds great. Very lively, love tube amps. I tried an Eminence ...

I found the TT really quiet for a single coil, so there is definetly something in how it is built. I played guitar a long time, and was always looking for a way to get single coil sound without the noise. Active, lace sensor, stacked humbucker, I've tried pretty much all that is out there. I've gone...

Interesting. I didn't think about the scale length, I just thought you liked a heavier string. Looking into it, it looks like my GFI is also 24" - so now I got to try out one of your sets and see how it feels!

South Austin music bought out a steel guitar store a while back, so he has some stuff. I got a new GFI seat for a good price. There was a Peavey Nashville there, but don't remember which one - I prefer tube, so I didn't look at it. He may still have it and they said they had other stuff in the back....

This is the one I got and I did get it from Carter - http://www.steelguitar.com/accessor/accedesc.htm#VolPed The switch is on the right side in front of the input jack. Thanks, Ricky, I'll try that.
I need to sit down an check them both out with a sound sorce and a VU meter.
The regular Goodrich I've been using on my Stingmaster and I haven't noticed any obviously lower volume.
I'll test both of them tonight.
