Chain of coincidences... I happened to see Robbie Robertson interviewed on the excellent PBS American Masters biography of David Geffen last week, and that made me want to hear Richard Shindell's cover of The Band's "Acadian Driftwood." Listening, I noticed again Larry Campbell's sweet und...

Lenny put a bunch of Marlen parts up for auction on eBay earlier this year and I picked up a few of them and had the pleasure of trading a few emails with him. He mentioned his illness but I didn't want to think he was this close to the end. I was very much impressed by his kind manner and his dedic...

"American Music Shop" for sure. It was the highlight of my week. The guests were great, but Mark O'Connor, Jerry Douglas, and Brent Mason in the house band... Are you kidding me?

Great example, I'll definitely be studying that.

And maybe Tom had had an extra glass of iced tea that day or something but he really kicks the volume up through the first half of that solo. Love that overdrive.

Located my dial caliper and my round tuit... My puller barrels, both plastic and the brass set-screw ones, are all 1/4" diameter and 3/8" long--in case that helps. Oh, and in reply to Michael's earlier question, the rod clearance holes look like they're more or less supposed to be centered...

Just a note from recent personal experience: My Marlen (early 80s S10 pull-release) uses those little plastic "bullets" along with set-screw shaft collars on strings with more than one raise or lower. I bought some 1/8" TIG rod to replace the coathangers a previous owner had used, but...

Katy Perry "...in Paris" in London

So who got this gig? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcmvwWRqOn4 There's lots of cross-cultural stuff going on. It's a cover of Jaz-Z and Kanye West from last year, a big deal although of course I didn't know about it. And in the original, "We're gonna skate to one song, and one song only" ...

Old thread woken up... Just in case someone finds this while looking for Marlen parts, that's being discussed in another topic: http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=222243 Nutshell: Lenny Stadler (Len's son) is retired now and is selling Marlen parts from the remaining stock. And that's on...

I'd love to figure out what the argument is, so I can take sides and call somebody an ignorant slut. :D It does seem to have drifted a bit from what the title says, and that's a good thing IMHO. Having a discussion based on one's own opinion of whether someone does or doesn't really love their past...

Thanks Greg. More is better. I'm still wondering about that "2A" on the 6th string in the 5th measure though. An A pedal doesn't affect that string, does it? And I was just browsing through the Winnie Winston/Bill Keith book and happened to notice the chord listing on p.43, which includes ...

Thanks, that's good stuff Greg. Just scanning through it looks like something I could definitely use for honky-tonk and swing comping. I'll work on it for sure. Oh: Is there a typo in measure 5, on the second C chord? There's "2A" for string 6 but the A pedal changes 5 and 10. Would that b...

Half A pedal on E9

I've been working a little bit at a time setting up my single-neck pull-release Marlen before trying to learn to play it, and finally it's at the point where there are three pedals and two levers working and in tune. I was just testing things out, unplugged, no bar or picks, and happened to notice a...
