I neglected to mention Shot Jackson on the Osborne Brothers' session. Even though the brothers lived in Dayton, OH and were members of the WWVA Jamboree in Wheeling, WVA, they recorded in Nashville. For one session, October 17, 1957, they recruited the talents of Shot Jackson on the dobro which Sonn...

I am always amazed to come across another recoding with Shot on the dobro and of course, with no credit. The ones that got away, were the ones when he did session work. One popped up with Rex and Eleanor Parker on the radio one day. I was able to find out the title and finally get in touch with Elea...

The January 5, 1956 version of "I Don't Wanna" was not released, but I understand that shows up in box sets of her material. After 1956, her sessions were minus a steel guitar and fiddle, since the producers wanted "The (new) Nashville Sound" which they felt had a wider appeal. I...

Rob:
I just noted that Don's E-6th tuning is different than yours (and mine for that matter).

His E6th, high to low was:

G#
E
C#
B
G#
E
C#
A

So you may want to tune to this first before you try the B-13th

Yes, Don used another tuning for some of her sessions:

B-13th
high to low
E
C#
A
F#
Eb
B
A
F#

Also used this one as well as E-6th on sessions for Hank Williams,Ray Price, to name a few.

I am no expert on metal but I think that pot metal is a dull gray and all of the underneath is a shinny metal or on the brace where the s/n is stamped, aluminum. So I'd say there is no pot metal.

I can't think or a nicer person than Mike, who would be more deserving to get the award.

So glad that there was a post about his steel playing which is just as flawless as what he does on the dobro.

You have answered my question and I appreciate it.

My LDG has "SP" under the logo and is exactly like the one shown in the fifth picture down, with a Walnut console.

I'm moving and it's too bad I going to sell it.

Thanks

Good suggestion. So I took off an end plate but it is still the same "walnut brown' color. So at least the fading is ruled out.

Must have been a custom job, I guess. With the low s/n, 16060, it also must have been manufactured early on.

Thanks for the help

ShoBud LDG console color

The color of the console of my LDG ShoBud is light brown, not green, like all of the others I've seen. Can anybody shed light as to why?

The s/n is 16060

When Kitty Wells recorded Makin’ Believe on January 15, 1955, Shot Jackson also tinkered with his tuning (E9th) to give the effect, sparingly, of a pedal steel. He said he was pressed into making that sound or something like it since on the previous session, Kitty recorded with Red Foley (September ...

I use what Shot Jackson used on his 7-string. Shot played on two of the Bales Brothers sessions. The first was what was done for King, in the early fall of 1946, where he played a B-7 Rickenbacher. Done at WSM in Nashville in two days. Incidentially, that was his first formal recording session, ever. The next session was for Columbia in Chicago...

So so so sad. Things were looking up for him for a while there and we all had some high hopes that he'd pull through, but it was not to be. When you loose a friend such as Dave, it really cuts deep. One never gets over it and just tries to cope with the loss, which in this case will be very difficul...

As everyone has said, it gets easier with time as you build confidence. It might come back to a degree at times when you work with a new band again. What may help at first is to try not to get too fancy and stick to the basics, playing the melody. Remember, if they asked you to play, they must have ...

I know that he excluded steels and fiddles from his "Nashville Sound" concept in the late 1950s. It was a move on his part, as a producer, to make the music sound more "pop" than country. As a result, the sessions Patsy Cline did at Bradley's from 1957 on, lost those instruments ...

Thanks so much for the replies. At first I thought it was JC but then after a bit, I didn't trust my memory, which is getting worse with time. I can remember him field jamming when we (Luke Gordon and the Lonesome Drifters) played at Sunset Park in PA, in the late 1950s. He was moved by one of our s...
