First off, I want to thank b0b for providing this wonderful resource for the pedal steel guitar, among other things, of course. This updated version is great and I love having the search results date from the most recent posts. Good job b0b!
I also want to thank some of the fellers (I just finished watching Tim Blake Nelson – O Brother Where Art Thou?) that have inspired me to pick up and start learning the pedal steel guitar. Hopefully one day I’ll be just as good, if not just as bad. (We’ve all had our bad days, right Dad? I recall a story of an overly abused volume pedal…)
Most of these guys are from the Portland, Oregon area and it’s always a treat to see these guys playing a show, or visiting their homes. I can’t imagine a friendlier group of guys than the ones down in Portland. Of course, I bet all you pedal steel guitarists are that nice!
Doug Jones – Thanks for setting me up with my first PSG! No other instrument is as beautiful to my ears as pedal steel guitar, unless I’m playing.
Harley James – Thanks for passing along that ZB to my dad. I’m sure you know how much it means to him to be playing that than a Maverick! It’s amazing how much he’s improved playing a professional model guitar, and it really is a sweet guitar! “Harley James” – What a cool name! Stick with it. Wink
Larry Behm – Thanks for your discipline and dedication you put forth in your instructional videos. I’ve personally watched “Picking your Pockets” and “The Mechanical Advantage.” Great stuff! May you prosper in your everlasting quest for the perfect sound.
Pete Burak – You’re my hero! It was nice meeting you at the Duff’s Garage - Blue Moon Highway show December 22nd. You bring a lot to the table and you’ve helped them raise the bar a bit. I told Buddy Cage hello for you at the Wild Buffalo NRPS show up here in Bellingham last month. He lit right up when I mentioned your name!
Phil Sikes – I live up here on Whidbey Island and I think there are only 3 steelers up here in this area, including me! Phil keeps himself busy running his Wild Bird store as well as being a very active member of the local chamber of commerce. He does, however, find time play his D-10 and U-12, and he plays them well! Thanks for your guidance in getting me started (roll the bar, not shake the bar - got it.) When you have some free time we need to get together and play again, I also want to check out that Band in a Box you use.
Pops – Thanks for the pack-away seat! You’re getting better dude! You’ve got a great set up and you need to start sitting in with bands. BTW, you’ve got a great bunch of guys in Blue Moon Highway and I think now that Pete’s in, you really need to start thinking about recording and putting together a media package.
Thanks to all the users on this forum. I’ve been a watcher for over a year now… I should have paid b0b first and then watched… My Avatar wouldn’t make me look like such a newbie right now! Oh well…
Here’s to the New Year! Thanks everyone!
