I'm playing a couple of different Reso's...One Regal RD45 that I really have a ball with , and then my Tut Taylor that I am more carefull with ...The Regal sounds great as I have modified it a little bit, and a little bit goes a long way !!....It's no Tut Taylor, but neither is the price...The Tut is very smooth and distinguished sounding ....Very polished tone ....I can't help but wonder how an 8 string Reso sounds ...I just can't envision 2 added strings that go lower than what's already on a 6 string ....The lower strings on a 6 string are had enough to get good sound from ....Am I missing something ?....Do the the lower strings on an 8 string really sound out ??..... Do you run different gauges when stringing up an 8 string ?..
Thanks in advance to all replies ....Jim |

James,
I play a 6 and an 8 reso. For example, hi bass G, put an E on the 4th string for a lush G6th sound. I will often tune the 8th string to a b7th or a 5th.
You can tune up to C6th with a G on the first string.
The extra strings gives you more room in the middle for other tunings. Not just for low strings.
E13, B11, etc.
Hope this helps.

Ron,
Thanks for your reply.....I can see the added tuning's , and can now also imagine tunning the same tuning , but tuning it differently on different Reso's...
Like an open G tuning being tuned differently on each reso ....Thanks, Jim |
