Came across this 2004 CD and took a chance based on the musicians ... Raoul Malo from the Mavericks on vocals, Pat Flynn on Guitar & mandolin and Rob Ickes on Dobro. This is a really nice record and Rob's resophonic and lap guitar playing is all over every cut. It's a mix of standards ... Blue Bayou, Early Mornin' Rain, Moon River, I Love You For Sentimental Reasons, Atomic Power (a great Louyvin Bros tune) etc. Malo's great voice makes this a smooth, easy-listening supergroup. Rob's reso fills and solos are the epitome of taste. I've been burned on a chance purchase before so this was a pleasant surprise.

Couldn't agree more, Andy, this one's a real sleeper. They go pretty cheap on eaby, too. Rob is just a flat-out monster. Tone, chops and taste for days.

Andy - I spent time with Pat Flynn over the weekend at the Oklahoma International Bluegrass Festival. He told me about that recording, and suggested that I check it out. He was here with John Cowan, and blew everyone away!

Cool, Kenny! They are definitely musicians who put their considerable chops at the service of the music. Too often, it's the other way around with virtuosi.

Andy
This kind of off topic, however, I am really enjoying your book about lap steels. Great history!
Thanks
Mike

I'll add my thanks to Andy for the great and much needed book. What a fine reference.
