I'm looking to replace (for gig and travel purposes) the OHSC for my National Tricone squareneck. Any suggestions for sources?
Thanks.

There's always the Calton custom case route. But that is at least $500 and a two month wait.

Did anyone go to the NAMM show last week and see any new travel cases? This is a market that is just waiting to be tapped. If someone would come out with a $150-$200 case that can survive airline baggage handlers they would make a fortune (relatively).

You might want to check this out. Very reasonable price and can take 700# of pressure.

CaseXtreme!!!!

I just went to their website and am very impressed! I just called their offices and spoke to the manufacturer, the guy knows his stuff. Their design makes total sense and they are resonably priced.

They were just reviewed in Acoustic Guitar magazine positively. I'll watch the web for a few months and see what's said. I just may get one of these.

It does look really interesting; I just wonder if it's a bit much for gigging. What the heck, though, I'm not hauling an amp with it. Maybe I'll look into it some more. Thanks guys.

I wouldn't use this case for gigging. I would only use it as a flight case. Once I get to my destination I stow the CaseXtreme and use my regular guitar case around town.

Question???

Rumor has it that this case exceeds the allowable checked baggage size for most US airlines. This would force you to pay an additional fee if you were use this case for a flight.

Thoughts? Anyone?

I checked a pretty big SKB industrial case (43 1/2" x 16" x 6") on the plane to Hawaii last April and other than strange looks - it was not a problem. But it's a tad smaller. It's got foam inserts that I cut out to fit my Stringmaster. http://www.skbcases.com/industrial/product/mp/mp3-low.html

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I happened to have purchased one of these "Clam" cases, and at first blush it's not bad at all. It reminds me of a corrugated box made out of some layers of space age plastic. I'm very eager to take it on the road. My Tricone (in its case) fits perfectly. Also, they don't exceed the airlines' allowable checked baggage size--I know of quite a few folks who've used them.

I just bought a Mermer baritone Weissenborn style guitar and the case is a Moll. I am really, really pleased with the case. I'd fly with it in a second, and it's small enough to gig with.

(more information on the Mermer bari soon).
