Here's something interesting. A new lap steel from Gibson/Dobro. I've looked elsewhere on the net, but can't find any info on this beast. Looks to be a thin body lap steel, but it has f-holes so maybe it's a semi-hollowbody.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's from 1996. They made a very few of them and then stopped, according to Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars. That whole section of their web site is still up, but nothing links to anything any more.
It was a great idea, but I guess Gibson decided not to go through with it. I never saw any of these instruments in person, but I did see a Gibson Weissenborn-shaped guitar at a vintage guitar show. It was not that special.

I looked at the Gibson site and also found no info on this great looking instrument.I did however get "tripped off" on their tour of the factory.Whew! Some process! |
