After spreading Aloha across the seas recently, our friend George Lake comes home to the frozen tundra of Canada and finds he has 22! students of all ages for his latest steel guitar class. 2 returnees, and 2 newbies.

A big mahalo! to Keoki for keeping the steel flame burning, and where you might least expect it.

Makes me wonder if we here in Hawaii have 22 non musicians who even know what a steel guitar is. What's your secret George? Sign up and receive a free luau? I doubt there are that many poi lovers in your area...

Now that Jerry Byrd has possibly seen the last of his great teaching days, I guess it's up to those like George (are there any more?) to pick up the slack for us here in the land where steel was invented and made popular worldwide. And that's far from the only thing this fine fella does for his very musical community.

We need more George Lakes!

Shheeeesh ! Mahalo Ron, however you were incorrect as far as the enrollment is concerned...I have only 20 steel students, (not 22 as you stated), and I also have 22 ukulele students (which is probably where you got the figure "22"). What is interesting, I teach seniors only. Those who have reached 55 and have nothing better to do than to enjoy Hawaiian music. My oldest, (or perhaps I should say she is my 'youngest') is a happy lady of 80 years whom I started playing steel when she was 74 ! They are a delightful bunch of people to teach and ever so eager to learn.
