How to change vol pot on a Nat. New Yorker?

Is it possible to access the volume pot on a National New Yorker at all? The pot in mine could really need to be changed, it serves more as an on/off switch than anything else, but I can't figure out how to access it. Seems like it's built into the guitar,- could it have been attached to the top plate before it was glued on, which means that by the time the volume pot dies, the guitar is more or less useless without a volume pedal?

I've also suddenly encountered problems with the jack output,- all of a sudden it's impossible to plug in the jack securely, but that problem seems to be 'fixable'.
Weird when stuff like this suddenly starts to happen to an otherwise perfect 1957 NY'er.......

I don't see any way to easily replace the volume pot on my National New Yorker either. It appears to be sealed into the body of the instrument. The jack should be easy to fix, but not the volume pot.

I was warned that taking one of these guitars apart would destroy it. But I was able to access the scratchy vol pot on my older NY'er by very carefully disassembling the bridge and removing the screws on the lowerbody. Then without any unnecessary force lift up at pot area a little bit. Just enough to get to the pot and not crack the top to neck joint. It came up barely enough to be able to spray some cleaner and lube into the pot. Or maybe better yet, have you tried to work some cleaner/lube down the pot shaft? I would try that first if you havn't already.

I've fixed the jack output, but the knob for the volume pot seems to be, ehm, glued on.......
I guess using brute force would remove it so I could try to get some cleaner down there, but I'm a little worried about ruining it, so I guess I'll just have to live with it the way it is and hope it doesn't get any worse.
At least it's not scratchy.
