I've got a Genz Benz acoustic 30 watt amp. This is a very quiet box that sounds very good. The mfg rep said it would also double for lap steel. Although its quiet as can be with my acoustic, it has a good bit of static when I plug the Rick into it. Does this mean my pickup needs work or is there something I can do to get rid of the unwanted noise?

Your Ricky is an extremely powerful single coil pickup ... especially compared to any type of acoustic pup ...

Hence you are alot more prone to the usual hum associated with single coils.

Does it get louder or quieter if you touch the strings or metal parts ...

If louder ... you have a ground issue .. need to check our wirin'.

If quieter .. thats normal ... Read this ...

Noise bucket

Happens with me ... 'specially in winter.

Some folks are just more "conductive" than others and some amps seem to bring it out more ... 'specially at higher gain settings.

My Fender Pro Junior is much worse than my 135 watt Twin as far as picking up noise/interference/radio stations ...

Try "grounding" yourself ... they make Anti-Static Bracelets/Anklets for working with computers or rig up your own using some copper wire.

Clip it to your cord plug/sleeve and you become a "human shield" ...

Works for me ...

Thanks much Rick! My guitar gets a little more quiet when I touch the strings so I guess the fact that its a single coil pup is what the problem is. I sure appreciate your help and advice. God Bless
