I Am not a steel player, I am a singer who plays some lead guitar. I have been able to get away with this for years because I always have had a good steel player to carry me through. If it came down to a choice between a steel or a drummer I'd as soon have a steel player. You guys always say a singer does not give the rest of the band any credit for what they do, here is one who does. When things are going right and smooth my little job is easy. Ol' waylon did a song once called don't cuss the fiddle un less you want that fiddle out of tune, a lot of truth in that. The next line is, let's all settle down and pick each others tune. I would have liked to put this in all of the topics, but It is to steel players mainly. Thank all of you for the time and talent you have put in, I know it has not come easy. I wish you all a merry Christmas and A very happy New Year. To me any way, your efforts have been enjoyed. Gary thank you for your heart felt post.
It is good to be recognized as a steel player or singer, or any other musician's contribution to a band, all have a value to add to the overall group's sound.
And Gary, I think everyone else will agree, your already a part of THIS FAMILY, and have been for a while. Merry Christmas to you and yours buddy.

Gary.....It would indeed be a pleasure to meet a man with that kind of heart and passion.......I'm a steeler and a singer (play and sing at the same time) and you're right....sometimes musicians, whether it's steel, lead or what, sometimes do not get the credit they deserve for playing what they play.....thanks for helping all of us to remember to say thanks to the musicians we work with.....Drummers aren't musicians, are they? LOLLOLLOL......HAL

Gary,
Telling it like it is. Most of us have experienced that kind of gig, Backing up a super EGO, not a good feeling, The Drummer,Bass and I once had a Fiddle tune worked out, what else but, The Orange Blossom Special, waiting our chance for a, Requested Fiddle Tune,
That was all it took to Humble the Vocalist.
Dirty Trick, but it worked great

Merry Christmas to You and Yours

Herbie

I have had the pleasure of working with Gary on many occasions. We had the top group in Joplin for quite some time. Gary loves steel guitar, and Gary is a great singer. I had the pleasure of playing on Gary's CD last year. The musicians on this CD were pretty famous in their own right, pleople like Wade and Chuck Landry. Gary is not eat up with ego, which is the problem of some singers. I hope to get to work with Gary again in the future. It is always a pleasure.
