Last Man Standing.

Well ole Jerry Lee has done a great set of duets,
with a huge cast of his playing fans.
To many to name. But all well known really artists.
But for steelers we have :

Ron Wood, who did a warm, fat sounding part without stepping on Jerry a bit,
with Mic Jagger.

Greg Lieze did some fine bluesy classic country
style work on That Kind of Fool, with Keith Richards.

Sweet little Sixteen has Nils Lofgrin on
Texasy sounding pedals, with Ringo Starr.

He does,
Don't Be Ashamed of Your Age with George Jones,
But NO STEELER here... where it most would have been appropriate.
But Ken Lovelace (I think) does some super classic Nashville style picking.

Ol' Glory has forumite Greg Lieze on lapsteel.
Fine soaring sound here.
And he gets mixed
up and lots of space to play too.

Lost Highway is a very nice version with Delany Bramlet,
and some fine slide guitar from Jimmy Rip.
I am not really familiar with him,
but he did this very well.

And finally The Pilgrim with Kris Kristofferson,
and Greg Lieze on PSG.
He's right in the mix and choices,
to add to, and not override the SONG.

Well The Killer has come up a with a fine swan song album,
even if he hadn't personally been planning to do it.

Quite a variety of songs and all well done.
He was originally against the idea of
sharing time with other younger stars;
as befits one of the GREAT egos on R n R.
But after the 1st 2-3 he got into it.

And a good amount of steel playing on it.
Not a steel soloist album, but if you ever
liked Jerry Lee Lewis then you will like this.

The title Last Man Stqanding refers to him out living his contemporaries, and still being alble to rock out at age 80.

On the inside cover is a picture of JLL, looking down at Elvis at the piano,
I think Carl Perkins with a flat top
and Johnny Cash.
All gone but The Killer. Last Man Standing.

Interesting,
that no one else has heard this album.
Or at least commented on it.

The cover's cool.
JLL standing playing piano
with big flames coming out the top.

Jerry Lee kicks it hard on this new "Last Man Standing" CD! I havent really cared for any of the Duets, Sinatra, Bennett, Ray, etc. were all a snooze but this is a Killer diller! How about that Jeff Beck and Jerry Lee on Rock and Roll, or the Little Richard "oooh's" on the Beatles tune? Seriously great stuff. I am also surprised to be one of the few who has it....go get it.....

I'm going to see him play tonight in Anaheim -- if I live long enough to make it through traffic, that is...

It's been excatly 20 years since I last saw him... Bet I changed more than he has...

Well, it was great to see ol' Jerry Lee last night. He appeared happier than he'd been in a long time. I think the guy's just having a ball at this point. Of course, he had to "interupt" the show to go off on the one L.A. player in the band -- the others were his old Memphis buddies. Of course, it was hard for anyone else to hear what the mistake was, through three guitar players strumming on electric guitars... But of course that's part of the shtick! Gotta love it. I did.

By the way, his coutry ballads just about killed me -- You Win Again was just phenomenal in term of just being THE REAL THING...

ps: No steel player on stage, nor guest stars.
