hello all,
We have some six thousand members in our great Forum.
i have been wondering how many of the members...........
1 regularly post? my guess is about 2%
2 Are full time players? my guess is about 0.1%
3 Have a regular day job and gig with a band 2or3 nights a week? my guess is about 50%
4 Are home only players.my guess is, the other 50%
I fall in to category 3,I gig 2nights each week.
Best regards
Billy

A hybrid of 3 and 4... Practise a lot, and gig/jam when it can happen (probably average once a month).

I am playing several nights a week.
I also have a little steel gig I do.
I post regularly, but you know that.
I also do production periodically.

I am a CAT 4.

I sell motorcycles for a living, the steels are there to help me unwind, and they do an excellent job of it. Great therapy!

A loaded Milennium and a couple Steel Kings would still be cheaper than a shrink!

Gene,

I'm in group 6. Never could cut the mustard. The only thing I can cut is the cheese.

I'm a #1 and a #3. I post here a lot when I should be working LOL, and I play with a Praise and Worship band on Wednesday nights, two services on Sunday morning, and two Sunday nights a month. We also have rehearsals on Thursday nights. Five or six times a year we may play at other functions away from our church.

edit ! I just noticed that this was pedal steel
topic ! I have been Non-ped for the last 8 years
pedals are to heavy for me .

I'm with Gene Jones - # 5 !
but refuse to lay down .

we get 30 to 50 gigs a year ,
the only time I suffer for it ! is
the late night stuff .

I guess that I fall somewhere between groups 3 and 4. I retired from teaching last year. We have a regular comedy/entertainment gig 12-15 times a year (25 years together) , but I play with two other groups on a volunteer basis twice a week at Lifecare and the VA Hospital. Country music from the 40's to the 60's. I started using the Superslide about a year ago, and I've promised the guys that they would see (and hear) pedals in January. Practice, practice. Dennis

#3. Full time day job + 4 nights at one gig and usually at least 1 night each weekend with another. Busier now than I've ever been but that's OK.

#3 for me. Used to be #2, but got older and needed security. Now I'm ready to quit my day job and just go back to being happy again. Money, Schmoney. Image

Category 1 and another category not mentioned.......retired and gig solo and with a band...gigs are seasonal...that's OK because then I can sit in my music room and do the things I like to do....I played for about thirty years in clubs and outdoor venues......now I really enjoy the solitude.

A major builder told me that 90% of the steels he sells are to "bedroom" players. Now that is not really a big deal since it seems that 90% of the 6 string acoustic and electric guitars are probably bought by bedroom players too.
I used to be a 2, now I guess it's a 213...book him Danno
