Northern Steel

Post by Mike Shefrin »

I recently picked up a great CD from Canadian steeler Bob Taillefer. It's called "Northern Steel", and features a bunch of different, and great Canadian players. There are three steelers
in particular who knocked me out- Bob Lucier,Dale Rivard, and Andy Schick. Well worth checking out.

That CD is definitely a must-have. A lot of great steelin' on the entire album. The recording quality is nice and clean as well.

Yes, a must have CD.
It's available in the Forum Catalog.

It's cool that the brand of Steel is listed for each track. I know of no other multi-artist album that does that.

Hey, John, I'm sure you have better ears than I do, but track 5 is one of my favourites on the album. That gal can sure sing! Image

Hello Mike,

Thanks for the kind words.

Producing Northern Steel was a true highlight for me. I want to thank once again the players that contributed to this compilation CD.

It is nice to show the world what Canadian players can offer! Regards! Bob

The "Northern Steel" album is a gem and Bob should be commended for undertaking the project. (He also plays such super steel on the CD.) I always look for excuses to get cuts on my "Swingin' West" shows. Maybe someday there will be a vol. two with these and other great Canadian steel players. There is so much musical talent North of the Border.

Hi Bob Taillefer,
It was a pleasure to meet you at the Norwalk convention. You played great, and I bought four of your CD's. I am so glad I did. The Northern Steel CD is fabulous and you did a great job producing it. The steel world needs to be aware of the many talented players from Canada. Merci, encore. Image

Boy! That Bob Taillefer is really something! He showed the whole house just how it should be done at the Rodeo Bar on Monday night, with an unassuming grace, and a lightning right hand. What a sincere pleasure to have had him in Norwalk and then as a guest with the Caravan on Monday night. We had the most delightful ride back to CT with his charming wife Deborah, and chatted the miles away. I gave a listen to his most recent CD, "Bob Taillefer Y Los Hermanos" and it's great. Amazing latin grooves with Bob's wonderful artistry on steel. Bob thanks a million. I'll contact you privately, and soon.... after I've had a chance to hear the rest.

Bon chance mon ami..Ma maison est votre maison...come again soon!

Bonsoir John,

Thanks for the kind words!I love playing all types of music on steel. Latin music is one of my favourite styles.

Western Caravan is a smokin' band! Thanks for letting me sit in! I had a great time.

Yes! The ride back was delightful. Debra and I appreciated that very much.

I hope to come down your way soon!

Merci! Bob
