We seemed to have quite a number of singers on tonights CMA show that were off pitch. Man, some sounded badly. They just weren't in sync with the key the music was played. Or was it just my ear tonight playing games with me?

Bill, I think Josh Turner hit every note, certainly close enough. Gary Morse was playing with Sarah Evans, was he doing double duty?

Were my eyes deceiving me or was our forum member Jeff Surrat playing dobro with Josh Turner?

William...

"We seemed to have quite a number of singers on tonights CMA show that were off pitch. Man, some sounded badly."

Now you know how they really sound without the pitch correction they do on record. Sad, isn't it? People used to have to sing; now a computer can make an acceptable performance for anybody.

Great job guys! I was happy to see and hear so many steels behind the artist.

Randle Currie sounded great too! Who was playing steel with Carrie Underwood?

Chubby..Yes, thanks for the picks they are wonderful.

Jim..They don't make a Rains T-shirt in a man's size!

Erik..Gary did Brooks & Dunn and Sara last night.

Grant..That was indeed Jeff with Josh.

John..That shot was free. Tommy White's wife was the camera operator!

Theresa..I can't remember his first name but his last name is Clark. He and his brothers made up the group Clark Family Experience. He was the dobro player. His brother plays fiddle for Carrie.

Theresa,
His name is Austin Clark. I met him last night for the first time. He said that he had just bought a GFI steel, but is a killer dobro player. His brother's name is Ashley and he is Carrie's fiddle player.

All I know is I got to see Eva Longoria close up last night!!! I think I'm taller than she is though! As you can see in the picture...I'm pretty vertically challenged. I was not standing in a hole!

Last night was the most fun I've had at one of these award shows. It was like old home week. I got to see people that I haven't seen in 10 or 15 years.

That's the same excuse, er, I mean, "explanation" I use when my wife complains that she has a hard time finding shirts to fit me!

That was Jeff Surratt with Josh Turner. The Form steel community was well represented by these fine players.

Despite all the usual complaints about the show, I think the stage set people did a fine job on setting up the bands.

Most all of the steel players were on an elevated platform, not buried somewhere behind the bass player next to the drummer.

Warren,
Jerry was playing a Lap King lap steel. I've already checked out their web site. Seems to be a very cool instrument. Sounded awesome.

The picture makes me wish I had watched the show. Tim, you really impressed me in the Mullen room in St Louis. I remember saying that my Mullen sounds a lot like yours only much slower.

Thanks Howard,
If you ever run into Little Bobby Whitten down in Leesville...tell him I said hello. He and I worked with Mel Tillis together. Ask him about the nickname the Statesiders gave us! What a GREAT player he is!!! Of course, I'm just assuming you might know who he is. If not...look him up...he's a steel players dream to work with.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Thanks Gaylon & Tim! Sounds like you had a blast with Eva!

I'm so happy Carrie hired Austin. I think if an artist has steel on records they need to hire one for the band. And I'm happy she won the CMA Female Vocalist! She's had 2 possibly 3 #1's this year! Not to bad.....

Theresa,

Sorry but Austin was hired to sit behind the steel for the CMA's only. He does not tour with Carrie.
