Does anyone know where I can find some good old fashion live hardcore honky tonk music with lots of steel and fiddle here in Austin?

Sorry to say this, Chris - but I'm betting we spill more country on Monday night that y'all drink all week in Sacramento...
[This message was edited by Nathan Delacretaz on 30 October 2006 at 07:35 PM.]

gee...i guess i worded that wrong...was just trying to sound ridiculous...i thought everyone knew that was the main, and possibly only, place to hear honky tonk music
in it's authentic form. i really didn't think it would be hard to find. no offense, just a bad choice of words!
guess i won't try to be funny anymore.
[This message was edited by chris ivey on 30 October 2006 at 08:48 PM.]

Y'all should have been here 30 years ago. There was more work than you could possibly imagine. Times have totally changed inside the city. Only two clubs totally traditional country, and a couple that have country acts occasionally. Outside of town there's still some work, but not nearly as much as there used to be.

I realize that the scene here is probably better than most places in the USA, but it ain't like it used to be. Just like Southern California.

No hard feelings, Chris - I've had a couple similar episodes. The lesson I learned: use winking smilies liberally! ha

You might be able to catch steel legend Neil Flanz at the Broken Spoke as well.
Last I knew he was working with Alvin Crow.
Definatly worth looking into. Image

Keep your eye peeled for a smoking steel player ,who's hot on the Austin scene right now named Jon Jaffe. If you get a chance to go out and see him ,do so.

Ginny's Little Longhorn on Burnett Road on Wednesday night. Justin Trevino has Jim Loessberg on steel. Great honky tonk music.

I thought Jim was drumming for Justin nowadays? Or maybe that was just because they were in Fort Worth last time I saw them and Johnny Cox was playing steel...

Look for The Cornell Hurd Band at Jovita's on Thursday nights. Scott Walls plays some real tasteful steel.
