Hello all, I have visited this forum in the past but never got around to join it. But I did tonight. I play several instruments which include: 5-string banjo, Bass, lead guitar, and some keyboard. But my favorite instrument I bought in 1972 was a brand new 1971 Emmons D-10 with 8 pedals and 7 knee levers. (SN# 1568 D). I don't play out anymore because of shift work. Anyways, glad to be here and hope I can contribute to this forum.

our Capt' here seems to have it out fer banjos but rest assured Randall, the rest of the crew might rib ya' but they don't let banjos go over the side

Thanks 'Crowbear'...It seems I recall a great steel player by the name of 'Winnie Winston' that started on banjo before he learned steel guitar! In my case I started on regular guitar, then bass, then pedal steel, dobro, 5-string banjo, and some keyboards, in that order. I could never find a particular player for one of the instruments I wanted to hear in my band at the time, so I learned them myself and played them in the band...depending upon the song we were playing. (Country/rock)

Another New Member. I have visited the Forum several times and have picked up some VERY good information and now I'm honored to join. BTW George Brown in Winston-Salem, NC is a very good friend of mine. In fact we got our first PSG at the same time. George stayed with his and graduated from the Jeff Newman PSG Academy. I sluffed off and toyed around with drums and bass guitar. My first love is the steel guitar so I will be a closet PSG picker.

Thanks to Joe, Larry, Travis, Leila and new member, Norman.....for the warm welcome you all provided. It is nice that you greet new members since probably many of us don't know many on here personally.
The only person I met in this forum is 'Jay Ganz'...a long time friend.
In answer to a question about attending a pedal steel show in Conn, No, I haven't been to any at all unfortunately. I was usually playing every weekend so I rarely got to go other places or even see other bands play locally. Maybe I would see them once a year when there was a local jamboree held and all the bands played then, or for a benefit.
Now I work at a power plant on rotating shift work, so I can't play in a band and haven't in about 25 years. To Leila: thanks for the welcome too. I never heard of a dog named 'banjo'....but then, why not!
The town I live in now has only about 10,000 people. Only 1 steel player that I know of here and he is 82 and doesn't use pedals. In fact when I ordered a set of E9 and C6 strings for my Emmons, the owner of the store had never ordered them before for anyone in his 22 years of ownership!

Thanks Nic! I visited your web page and see that it is quite impressive and you have done a lot of work there. Good going!
Interestingly, I still have 3 'new' sets of C-6th Emmons strings in the original packages...green labeling, called "Emmons Stereotone strings". . Looks like I paid $8.50 for each set back in the mid 70's from a store.
From my local store that never ordered them before, just got me some new ones called 'SIT Buddy Emmons' and both C-6 and E-9th cost me $22 for both sets and that was supposed to be at a discount according to his price supplier/sheet that he showed me. E-9th listed at $17 a set, and C-6th was $22 a set list price. This was before I joined this forum and knew about strings for sale here.
