I've been listening to lot of Jimmy Day since I returned from the convention. I picked up a double CD of two of his albums from the early '60s. Is there any tab out there for some of these tunes? Panhandle Rag, Georgia Steel, Bowman Bop, Bud's Bounce.......killer versions of these tunes.
BTW, I don't think I've heard more heart-felt, musical steel playing. His style has huge personality. I had heard bits of his playing here and there before, but having this set of tunes has just sparked something in me. I'm sure many of you already feel this way about Jimmy Day, but it's new to me and I'm glad I found this collection. |

Do a search in the tab section, there's a couple tunes in there, "Am I That Easy to Forget" for one.
I thought that old Bengt (where'd he go, I wonder...) tabbed "I Love You Because" in there a long time ago, but now I can't find it. |

Also, if you go to Rebel and Ricky's site (sorry don't have the link in front of me) Ricky Davis has posted a great tab of Jimmy Day's "Farewell Party" It a good one.

One of the high points in my life was meeting, visiting with and hearing Jimmy live. I have been listening to him since my first days on steel and to me no one put more emotion into an
instrument as Jimmy did his steel. Sorely missed.
thanks

Thanks for the leads, guys. I'll check 'em out.
It would be nice to hear some stories about Jimmy from people who played and spent time with him. I really wish I could have seen him play. [This message was edited by Chris LeDrew on 10 September 2006 at 08:00 AM.] |

On one of Herb Steiner's teachig CD's he has tabbed out some Jimmy Day solos on Johnny Bush recordings. The CD and tab are real good. Contact Herb. Jody. |

A year or two before his death, Jimmy Day offered two booklets of his tab for sale. I bought the first one but did not get the second one. I don't know if any of this is still available. |

Jimmy Day is all over Willie Nelson's "Broken Promises" CD set, which I've been spinning daily since I got it in Nashville. Awesome.
Tab? Don't I wish... some of them pads & fills are real tear jerkers...
The "Masters" CD from Bobbe Seymour has a tab book of what he and Jimmy Day created. I've been working on it for a while...[This message was edited by Ray Minich on 12 September 2006 at 10:07 AM.] |
