Thanks

I saw one of the episodes last night (the 9 PM (E) show) and it looked like the "Big E" behind John Anderson.

I watched several of these yesterday, I saw Curley Chalker in the house band on some, and Russ Hicks on some. On one song, Russ was playing acoustic and Curley was playing steel. I can't remember the song, but Curley was doing a neat steel riff all through the song that I've never heard before. I wish I would have recorded it. Tommy Williams was playing the fiddle too, did he ever recover enough from his accident to play again?

Darvin,
Sometime back I asked about Tommy Williams. I met him in the early 70's when he was in the Valley with Mel Tillis. No one seemed to know anything about him. Tell me what you know. Thanks!

Gary,
I did work with John between 1982 and 1990. However,if you didn't like it - it wasn't me!

Buck, it was you! and I liked it a lot! Curly and Russ on one tune were not playing live, I saw several that were lip sync'd including several of Buck Owens', but many, many great live performances. I really liked Curly with George Straight and Russ with Lyle Lovett! And the live cloggers backup too! I remember watching these when I was 5 years old...
I'm very proud now to know you guys...I got to pick Curly up at the airport once.

I forgot to mention, he was playing a JCH. Reba was on the episode, and this player played in several different scenes.

Dave,
I could have missed something, but the only JCH I saw was played by Russ Hicks. I think that might be who you were asking about. Russ was part of the Hee Haw band and played with quite a few of the artists.
[This message was edited by Jim Hartley on 31 July 2006 at 01:21 PM.]

I am sure that the steel player Dave is referring to was a memeber of Reba's band. He and the guitar player played a hot ending twin riff on My Window Faces the South. I would also like to know who he was. The steel playing on that particular song was supreme. Russ looked so young I almost didn't recognize him except that his posture at the steel is still the same and he plays great-then and now.
[This message was edited by George Duncan Sypert on 31 July 2006 at 03:41 PM.]

A very youthful John Hughey was playing a JCH behind Conway, who apparently had a slow hand of some kind that was popular with the ladies.
I never heard about it. Steel players don't usually appreciate slow hands.

Herb, you're right. I've been seeing John with that Zum for so long I didn't even think about him with anything else. I remember seeing it now that you mention it.

I think CMT will get back some of their former
viewers, if they keep rerunning these Hee Haw shows!
Great stuff!
I was half expecting to see Buck Reid play behind
Lyle Lovet's performance, untill I realized it was
a 1986 show.
So who was playing behind Lyle on Sunday?
Buck...Flintstones forever!

I'd like to see condensed versions of the show where they showed Buck and Roy doing their songs and the featured artist doing his.
I'm afraid all that cornpone humor has got to me and I can't bear to watch it anymore.
Even a DVD video would get my vote and money.

I've really been enjoying watching these old Hee-Haws. Great classics, man. George Strait tonight from 1983 -- looks like a kid!

My wife and I were watching the Hee Haw episode with Conway when she blurted out, "John sure had alot of hair back then." Next time I see John I'll be sure to mention her observation to him. hehehehehe

Thanks, I forgot what Russ looked like 17 years ago. I may have to watch more of these re-runs. The humor is not quite my cup of tea, but I appreciate it nonetheless.

I guess I must have watched every Hee Haw episode that came on,,funny how looking back, you could just see the music style changing,I think It started in 68 or 69,and played thru 89,if im not mistaken,,I enjoyed every one of them,,watched old stars die,,and new stars come on show,,sad when "Stringbean" got murdered, and then ole Jr Samples,oh well,,life I guess,,I wish I could catch some of the 60 and 70 shows, does anyone know if they started back that far,,did i miss them,,or did the start in the 80ies,,,,seems like ole Possum eyes was on the first show in 68 or 69.
Tom Harris.........
Jr?,,yes grandpa,,there sho is a prety girl sitting on the porch over younder,,Jr,sho wish I was facing that way......now you got to admit, this kind of humor is better than some you hear on some of the nightly shows...

I saw the episode with Russ Hicks playing Acoustic behind Curly that Darvin mentioned.
It's too bad they don't have shows like that anymore.

This weekend was an eposode from around 1970 with Loretta Lynn and Bill Anderson. I give the cameraman credit for the steel players closeup doing the chimes on I Love You Drops.
