| That's pretty good and singing too. I am wondering if someone could expand on Barbara's bar technique. I must profess my noviceness. Barbara is doing some hammer-ons/pull offs with the front of the bar and with the butt of the bar several places on the fret board. Anybody have any hints, advice, or tab for those ? |

| There's not much to it, really, Colm. You just lift the bar off the strings and replace it, remembering to do it quickly and positively to prevent "buzzing". Of course, you can pick or not pick the open position, depending on the sound you want. There's a lot of this done on steel, both with single notes, and with chords. The only downside is that it only works in certain keys. |

I once saw an old guitar of hers (a lacquer Emmons p/p with gorgeous artwork on the cabinet) that had pedal 5 marked with white tape. I hadn't realised (until seeing this clip) what her level of ability on E9 was, and I'm now wondering if that 'marked pedal' was there to help her play the C neck (maybe she was less accomplished on the back neck?)...
The guitar was in a collection, and I'm assured it was 'original'. Can Mike Jones throw any light on that particular p/p?

That was a clip from the old TV show "Melody Ranch". At the end I saw Johnny Bond and Billy Mize walking on the set. Billy told me once that Barbara would come and play at a show he was on and set on his lap and play his steel with him. He said that once she'd grown up he asked her if she wanted to to it again and she just laughed and said "NO".....JH in Va.
