Casey-Thanks for posting that link of Kayton. He sure plays great and very creative. I see our good Michigan Friend LT. Zinn happy as usual and playing that great rhythm guitar. He is another great musician, and SGHOFamer.
Back in the old days of non pedals, that was one of my favorite Hawaiian tunes, and used to play it a lot with my hawaiian trio. But I just played the melody pretty straight.
Yes, we used a smal bar and picked it up moving from fret to fret. Didn't want to have everyone hearing a lot of slides unless we planned them.
Back before World War II, Hawaiian music was very popular and gave us a lot of jobs in those days....brings back memories..al

| Kayton is a true master in the mold of Jerry Byrd, yet with his own distinctive style. It's always a treat to hear him play. Reminds me of a story. I'm a big fan of the Derailers. They put out an album called "Here Come The Derailers" with my friend Marty Muse on steel. The first cut is called "More Of Your Love" and there's this verse with amazing sliding harmonics on it. When I complimented Marty on it, he sheepishly admitted that it was Kayton for that one verse! |

Kayton fans that receive Bobbe Seymour's weekly mailing probably enjoyed last week's "tips" from Bobbe.
The Country Music Hall of Fame features a steeler player every Sunday at 1 pm. Last week Keyton Roberts was the featured steel player. Apparently he put on a fantastic show for Bobbe, several of Nashville's other pickers, and the audience. The player can play solo, bring a band, trio, or whatever. Kayton had his wife playing keyboard. We know she's great! Their session gave the folks an hour and a half of pure enjoyment.
Bobbe included a story in his newsletter regarding a little "skirmish" - or near disaster between Kayton and Hank Snow. A great write-up Bobbe. Thanks!
