I guess it must sound like I'm bragging (I am), but this gig I fell into every friday happy hour in Oceanside CA. is giving me the chance to meet and play with so many of my heroes.

Once again I had to play bass to free up our usual guy to do a better paying (but not as fun)gig, so I called my friend Jim Palenscar to come in to sit in. Jim sounded great as usual. This time he brought in a little student model Emmons P/P from his shop that really had THE tone...even though it didn't even have a neck!

Then we were totally honored to have the great Mike Smith and his lovely and talented wife Teriney (aka "T") take time out from their vacation to come in an do a few numbers with us. T is truly a top notch pro vocalist, and Mike is absolutely one of the best there is on steel...even on a student model steel!

Thanks so much to all for making my day...I am not worthy!!!

Rick

To be able to hear Mike for just those few songs was awesome- and what a great voice T has!! Whew- I have to tell you- it was a bit intimidating attempting to play when a true monster is watching- fortunately from a bit of a distance - Thanks again Mike and T- wish it was longer!

Thanks to Rick and Jim for letting T and me sit-in for a few tunes. Besides being a steel player, Rick is a wonderful vocalist and bass player. Jim is a wonderful player as well and I'm looking forward to visiting Carlsbad/Oceanside again soon and hanging with both of these cats (didn't get to see Jim's steel guitar store but I will next time).

One word of advice...ALWAYS carry your own picks with you if nothing else. Jim was kind enough to let me use a pair I could bend but I couldn't get them even close in those few moments (I've been breaking-in a new pair of picks myself for over 4-months now and they're almost close to being right).

If you're in the area, stop by to see Jim's store and go see Rick at McCabe's on Friday afternoons (near the beach on Oceanside Blvd...is that right Rick?) Jim you should post your store's address too. There's too few of you guys in the country and we all need to know where you are.

Thanks and we look forward to visiting with you guys again!
