When I got my first steel 2 years ago(Sho-Bud student model) I told my wife my dream was to play the "Boot Hill" just once. "Boot Hill is a bar here in Gillette. It used to be a big deal country bar.

Well this past Friday afternoon, I called a local drummer to see if he knew of anywhere I could play this weekend. He said I could play a free benefit with him and the band he plays with up at Boot Hill. 2 hours later I was setting up with them.

I asked if they were playing the rest of the night and if so could I join them. They said no, the bar had been bought by a new owner who was shuting it down after the benefit at 7:30. Bummer! I had missed it by one day!

But then a last minute deal with the new owner changed everything and we got to play. And play we did! That was the last gig to ever be played in the bar.

Now tell me, whats the chances of that happening??? It was a great party for the bars last night and my third gig.

why are they closing that bar? It was a nice place..big..I hated the stairs in the back tho..but the stage was nice and big, people were nice and the whole place was huge.Too bad,it was a nice club...they will be turning it into a hip hop/dance joint now I guess

Well Gillette is booming big time right now and I guess the new owner is keeping a resturant and making a new catering service. Word is there won't be any bar at all and that they will bulldoze the old and build new.

I agree on the stairs. I think they are the same ones you used to climb. I thought for sure I would fall through!

Your right, it is a nice building..big roomy and sounds good. But it is awefull run down and has become quite a dive.

Here's the kicker. After the band quit and the lights came up, I though what better way to send this washed out dive into extinction than with a personal rendition of Amazing Grace! So I turned it up and let er rip. Alot of people turned to listen. I don't know what they thought, but I really didn't care. It's not like they were gonna ask me back or anything.

I played my first gig 3 weeks ago, and due to the fact that there arn't many....any?....steel players around here, Iv'e ben able to play somewhere every weekend now. Looks like I'll get alot of practice this summer. Lucky me!

I telling everyone that I play for free. At least till alot of folks know I'm around.
