I'm sure you're talking about Bobby Clement. I knew him in the late 60s and early 70s when he was living in Longview, TX. He was working in a music store there. He played with Tony Douglas sometime during the mid to late 60s. I'm not sure, but I think he passed away a few years ago. |

I was there in those years, Tony Douglas, Orval Couch, Starlighters etc., but I didn't start with Billy Walker until summer of '69. The band was Rayburn Anthony bass, Glenn Bryan guitar and Tony on drums.
I worked with Billy on and off for 5 years, and with Lynn Anderson and Ray Price at the same time period. ('69-'74) Many Opry shows with him (Billy).
Billy was a wonderful guy to work with, did a little overseas work as one of the "Tally Whacker" band also.
The last three days have been very hard on me, I miss this family very much, we have Billy's computer here now and were doing some work for Betty.
Man, this is rough. I saw either Billy or Betty about every day and worked several gigs with the great guitarest, Danny Patton. Why oh why.

I got to know Bobby Clement after he moved to Hamilton Alabama back around the early 80's. Bobby was a fine steel guitar player who could really make that Sho~Bud of his sound soooo good, and just a really super guy to hang around with. He was working as a DJ at WERH in Hamilton when I knew him.
Sometime after that, he moved to Haleyville AL and worked at WJBB radio as a DJ.
Sadly, Bobby passed away some years back.
Bobbe, my condolences on the loss of your friend. It hurts us all to lose those that we knew through their music, but obviously it has a much more devastating effect on those who knew them personally.

I had the great pleasure of being Billy's Steel Player following Bobbe Seymour for (2) solid years! (’71 & ’72) It truely was the best experience of any for me, since moving here to Nashville in ’67! Billy was a great person to be associated with along with the late Glynn Bryan, Rayburn Anthony, the late C.W. Mitchell and Tony Austin! All those who are no longer with us are greatly missed!

So ,We have lost more great artist's. I always think of George Jones great song " Who's gonna fill their shoes " ? It surely isn't Montgomery Gentry and the current crop of so called country artists.
Billy Walker was a very special entertainer and a great person. Danny as well was a great picker. I will miss them ...
You don't have to agree with me as I am biased about the country music that will last forever..

The worst thing that happened to Country Music was 'Gone' by Ferlin, 'Four Walls' by Jim, and 'Hello Walls' by Faron. At some level, we have never recovered. It was the end of fiddles and steel for decades with the few exceptions of people like Jones, Buck, Merle, and some others and even they fell victim to background vocal groups and over produced records. Now that we have fiddles and steel back in today's world, there is no music with a melody that lingers in the mind 30 seconds after the song has ended. The golden era for me was Hank up through, and not including 'Gone'. Just listen and watch these old 50's clips...thry are truly wonderful.
However today we do have, Heather, Justin, Jake, Johnny, Amber, Curtis, Darrel, Leona, and Bobby still pumping out the great old stuff. They are the only singers I buy.
(not a complete list - as Ike once said, "To enumerate is to omit")
Just one person's opinion. |
