A steel buddy of mine is trying to find an oil painting of Jim Reeves that his wife did from an old album cover some 40 years ago. She said they were in Nashville at, what they remember to be, k-Ark recording studios owned or operated by a person by the name of Kapp or Capps ( not sure ). Anyway, he talked her into letting him hang the painting in his studio. She never got it back and she is trying to locate the painting. If it's not for sale, that" ok. She would just like to find out if the painting still exists and talk with the owner. Her name is Mary Lou Skidmore and she signed both front and back of the painting. I asked her what size the portrait was and she thinks it is about 16x18. She is 80 years old and her husband still plays the steel. Any information about the studio or the person that owned the studio, or the oil painting of Jim Reeves would be very much appreciated. Thanks for any help.

The man you're speaking of is John Kapps.I don't know any more than that. I knew him in the 60's.

Hi W.J., You might check with Rick Garrett in Tyler as he found a steel guitar he was looking for at the Jim Reeves estate. The picture might be there, Jody.

I worked many sessions for John Capps during this time period, and I can tell you, good luck getting anything from his estate. he still owes everyone in Nashville, Ha!
K-Ark records was the ----------, well never mind.
However, any money at all coming in was most welcome in those days.

I think the old "Jim Reeves" House and museum was bulldosed down and demolished by a contractor around a year ago. There is no telling how much history and gems were lost in that single act. I belive the land was wanted by a developer to put in a "Home Depot",Wally-World" or something like that. The act was supposely done late at night before a cese and detest order could be written up and served. I don't know if his wife had removed any or all of the "Jim Reesves" stuff pior or not. I went through the museum some years ago and noticed that it wasen't being maintaned very well at all. Finally the front gate was locked and the house and grounds (IMO) just fell into a major mess.

I sure hope most of Jims stuff has been captured and is now a part of the "County Music Hall of Fame".

Hey,thanks guys. I appreciated any input I can get. This will probably turn out to be a needle in a hay stack search for these people, but what better place to start looking for something than with friends and folks on the Forum.
