Let's face it, with all of the great PSG gear that's available on the Steel Guitar Forum (among other sources), how many of us are spending joint marital assets (money) on new gear without the full knowledge and blessing of our spouses? Every time I start to tell my wife about a new aquisition, for the most part, she'd rather not know. Anyone care to fess up?

My wife has no idea of what my musical equipment or any other personal items that I have are worth or cost! What's nice is that she doesn't care! What's not as nice is that she thinks I should sell everything I have, because; I don't need it! IHO (in her opinion)

Funny that you would bring up this topic. I just dropped $2400+ last week on equipment. I had to ease her into that transaction. After I had made the procurement, the first thing she said was "how about selling some of this other stuff." ![](http://steelguitarforum.com/smile.gif) |

Wife: "I thought you said you were going to the music store for a set of strings, you bought a new guitar!"
Husband: "But Honey, I did buy a set of strings, this Zumsteel just happened to be attached to them."

I'm as guilty as anybody in hiding my purchases from my wife. She just doesn't understand that I suffer from terminal GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome). As far as I can determine, there is no known cure. The only way to handle the cravings associated with the disease is to BUY SOMETHING!
This is something you might consider, however. I have set up a living trust and put all my musical instruments and equipment in the trust. A while ago, I told my wife what I thought my "stuff" was worth and now she's worried that someone will break in and steal it!
Aaaaaah women, we can't live with them and we can't live without them.

My wife is usually pretty good about me buying stuff. She even handed the clerk a charge card for over $700 of cakewalk software.
However, I bought a Yamaha acuostic/electric at a local pawnshop and didn't mention it. I walked past her playing it and she didn't know it was something new.
Any big ticket item, it would only be fair to include her input as I'm no longer working because of health issues. |

Plead the Fifth,
Drink a fifth...
Yes I am a steelaholic. I firmly believe that buying more gear, lessons, accesories and doodads will make me sound like Mr. E.
Don't have to use them, don't have to study them, just have to own them...
Then there's that practice issue, but that's for another session. |

Lets face it. No one needs 3 or 4 steel amps,3 steelguitars,4 volume pedals,ect,ect...I came to this conclusion years ago when I had to work my way thru the music room....RS

I disagree. Each of my steels and guitars and amps has a purpose, if only for backup. Of course everyone knows that any wife, ex, or lawyer can google your name and come up with this thread on the SGF, right? I'm hereby claiming I own the bare minimum, and they eventually pay for themselves. |

TC, why did you even ask?
When I was young, I bought equipment because I thought I had to have it to play. If it was not the newest it was no good. NOW, I am older (so are my toys)and do not want to hear her noise any more, we talk about the gear I need, she wins and I usually do not get it, and we are happy. I guess, she said I am.
IF I do get something, she is very likely to spend 2 to 1 of what I spent.
38 years with her and I lost the power to rule. |

I am reminded that Texas is a "community property" state and that she owns an undivided 1/2 interest in anything I purchase.
