John Hughey is partialy responsible for my intrest in PSG. I saw him with Vince Gill back in 1998 and shortly there after I got my first pedal steel guitar. My thanks goes out to John for just doing what he does best.

I hope John doesn't turn me in to the music police for trying to steal licks and then mangling them up as bad as I do !
He plays the rock stuff on the C neck on this clip. I'm figuring that one out today.
John, If you are reading this, you are the greatest and a real inspiration.

| Wow--thanks for posting this! They're really rocking...I dig the drummer! Mr. Hughey really rocks that C6; very cool, and I dig the wah-wah effect he adds at the end. Man, I am really loving the posts you folks are putting up on yourtube.com. A lot of this is new to me, and it's very inspriring and entertaining. When you rock, is it on the C6 or the E9 neck??? |

| I play rock on a D10. I usually find that which neck I use depends more on which register I want to play in, rather than the chord voicings I'm looking for. |

If I'm not mistaken, I think that is Lew Houston on steel guitar on "Working Girl". If I'm wrong, my apologies to you "John". I know that John told me that Lew played on the record of it. Still, great videos. Thanks for posting them. Ray

I've shared this story with John, and he vaguely remembered. He was with Conway in Kansas City, at the now defunct Fairland Park, for an outside evening show. I think it was late 60's or early 70's. There were just the four, John the only lead. When they announced Johnnee B. Goode, I wondered, now this will be a real hoot. A steel player doing J.B.G., and on C6th???? Hummm!!!!
I have been a fan of John's ever since....taught a young "smart$%%" to engage brain, before mouth goes into gear!!!!
Amazing what talent will do.

Somthing is interesting with this video. Where is the guitar player playing the fuzz and wah stuff? Conway is acting like he is playing the guitar solo and there are other background singers singing. The fuzzed out guitar runs right into the clean sounding steel solo so it can't be coming from the steel.
Are they playing along with a track?? |
