I read that the average age of forum members is 52. My daughter's band, ave age 25, is looking for a steel player. Her father, at 63 isn't what they are looking for. Her band plays mainly in central and southern Indiana. Like to know if there are many younger players out there.( Indiana or?)

This may be difficult to make happen depending on where they put the age cap. I'm one of the youngest steel players I know of at 26 (I'm clear over in Utah). I was in a band once where we had an age limit, but in heavy metal image was everything, and young members for that kind of thing were a dime a dozen.

My experience has been that country is not as image dependant. You watch some of these big country acts and notice that the people in the band are usually older and not glamorous, and it's okay. I now play with people in their 30's, 40's and 50's and it doesn't bother me a bit - they are a lot more mature too, so I prefer it this way.

I would tell them that they can look, but if they seriously want a steel player they should probably loosen that requirement. Have them go to Online Steelers and look under Indiana. Good Luck!
