Need help with stringmaster pickup

Post by Mike Bagwell »

Hi,
My front pick up went out on my 50's stringmaster yesterday. I had noticed some problems for while, but I play the other neck (tuned to C6) about 90% of the time. Well yesterday the pick up went completely out. I took the control plate out and checked the wiring everything looks good. I put my ohm meter on it, and found it to read open. I can wiggle the pickup a little and sometimes it will read around 55K.
I know that these pickup are wound in pairs for the humbucking feature to work properly. Should I buy another pickup?, if so how do I ensure its wound in the correct direction?, or do try and get this one rewound?.

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
I had the same problem a coupla years ago. The single pickup should read around 8500 ohms DC.

Jason Lollar can repair what you have. He also has stringmaster pickup pairs for sale.

Mike, you can't go wrong with Jason Lollar.

I sent an old horseshoe pickup to him a couple of years ago. He could have easily told me it needed to be rewound and charged me accordingly. It actually only needed minor work. My final bill: $15. Who knows, maybe you only need new leads soldered on your pickup, or maybe the pickup can be saved without a rewind somehow? You can't go wrong with Jason.
