From what I can find out, Tony Booth did about 7 LPs in the 1970s with Jay Dee playing steel.

Can anyone tell me which were the best?

Right, they are all great!

Jay Dee played on them, also Jerry Brightman can be heard on several Tony Booth recordings!

Kind Regards, Walter

Also Ralph Mooney recorded an album with Johnny Booth. AKA Tony Booth.

Good call Fred, the Johnny Booth LP is from 1967 and on the Uni label, apparently they thought 'Tony' was too ethnic a name for country music fans!

I think Tony told me that Buck came up with the change. They didn't think Johnny was "pro" enuf.Or sounded just right so they came up with Tony.

Thanks guys

I just found the Johnny Booth 1967 LP on ebay for $7.99. It will be in interesting to hear Mooney - several of the songs on the LP appear to be Wynn Stewart numbers so it is logical that Ralph Mooney is playing as he did the originals.

Fred,

Your right on the money as it was Buck that suggested "Tony".

sorry, when I wrote 'they' I was mentally including Buck as I thought he was part of Tony's management or whatever.

When he was on MGM (before the Capitol LPs) the studio chores were handled by Owens studio alumini which lends some creedence to this thinking.

Bill, Tony's not selling cars, but driving a truck on short runs near Houston, TX. I pick with him once in a while, and play with his brother Larry on a quite regular basis. Both Tony and Larry are doing very well, and both are still involved in music. Tony is the bass player at the Alvin Opry in Alvin, TX, just south of Houston. JC
