Quite a talent for sure... Can play anything from rock to country on the pedal steel, sings well while playing, writes songs, does great comedy, and if you have seen some of his instructional materials, teaches well and knows what he is talking about. I have seen him live more than once and he is indeed, a very talented musician. Larry Jamieson |

Saw him for the first time at the CT PSGA show. What impressed me most was the way he could play w/o looking down. I'm a lap player but was awed.

Kevin, theres not enough words to describe this guy...can pretty much do any thing he wants to on that steel guitar..And for folks that are fascinated with Robt. Rand., they need to take a listen to Mr. Joe sometime, when he gets into some of the outstanding flunky, funky, rocky things that he can pull off..also the guy makes doing those things look real easy. |

Its my belief that Joe Wright IS one of the all time greats. An absolute Grand Master. I've seen him do banjo rolls through three chord high speed progressions while having his head completely turned looking at the back wall. He also invented his own right hand style. We saw Joe play last March at the Texas Jamboree. He was fabulous and thats an understatement. He did a Rock song with a steel ending and it was funny and Awesome...the place rocked! And I don't even like Rock. But I found myself mesmerized. If we're reaping what he sowed, he must have sowed lots of practice.

Joe is a great player. He is a great comedian and a great teacher. If you really want to develop a right hand technique, Joe has some tapes that if you will practice them, you can develop a great right hand. There is a new young player on the scene who I have helped some along the way along with some others but this young man has a great right hand and it is from working with Joe Wright's instructional tapes. I think there is none better. Joe deserves top billing on any show he plays because he is that good and yet hysterically funny when he wants to be. He can make you cry with laughter then make you cry with passion. I don't think Joe gets half the credit for what he can do.

Joe is simply a brilliant person, who's also blessed with great musical abilities and great wit; therefore his intelligence is easily expressed musically and in his comedy.
Of course, there are some equally brilliant people who don't have the musical and comedic gifts, but Joe's not in that group.

I had the pleasure of seeing Joe the first time for me, at the Dallas covention last March. My opinion? Well, let's just say that I WILL be sitting in the front row as he does his seminar at the Dallas 2006 show. I will learn from one of todays steel greats, the "GREAT THEOPHULUS" him self!! I saw Joe at one of the British Steel festivals. Not only can he play brilliantly while looking around the hall laughing, he played anything the audience of steelers called for - this guy is fearless! |

Have been lucky enough to see Joe twice at the British Festivals.AWSOME.and a real nice guy to speak too.Wish I had a fraction of his talent.
ps had the honour of playing support for Dale Watson in Glasgow when Kevin was playing with him, and got to say he ain't to bad a picker himself. ---------------

I think Joe is a great musician. The first time I met him he sat in on Hal Higgin's Emmons with the Day setup, and no picks, and sounded like he had been playing it for years. He told me it didn't matter, he could play any of them. It was not a boast, but just the way it was. He is a nice guy too, his only fault in his lack of support for barbers.
