I'm interested in finding a Fender 400 that's seen its best days. I want to convert it to a non-pedal console so the main things I'm interested in are the body, frame and legs. price is an object. |

"Convert" it to a non-pedal console??? There's no converting to be done, just leave off the pedal board and rods, and play the thing!
If you do remove parts, remember to save all of them! A 400 with no pedals is about worthless, and will remain that way if you let the other parts go. |

An about worthless 400 is what I'm looking for. The 400 body has excellent sustain and I like the long wheel base. I think I can set up a dandy non-pedal steel on one. A working 400 is probably out of my price range. |

Man, I don't really think there's an "about worthless" 400 body, frame and legs. When you figure a tunner pan will cost you $120-150 alone, by the time you get a pickup and some sort of bridge & nut installed you're better off buying a 4-pedal one for $500-600 or so and parting out the mechanism and other gadgetry. I'd look at a 400 changer for my spare myself. |

Apparently I'm barking up the wrong tree. I didn't realize they were collectibles. |

Not as collectible as Strats and Teles, but still going up in value. Realize a '63 400 might be $600, and a '63 Tele $4,000. More and more players are realizing the 400's have a unique flavor and are quite good instruments, though not for "Nashville" Country. I've watched the value double in about 3 years. And replacement parts availability from Fender being zero, those of us who play them as primary instruments try to gather all the spare parts we possibly can. |

Fellas I want to thank you for enlightening me. I got one in a trade several years ago but wasn't playing at the time so I junked it(didn't like the cables). Back in my early teens my buddies and I used to chip in and buy A model Fords for $25. We would terrorize the countryside till they conked out and abandon them oh well...... |

hehe - reminds me of 1969 when we could buy Ford "Woodie" Wagons for $250 to haul our surfboards around.
Price one now. Yikes,. |

Don, I have a Fender 1000 ( i think that's right, it's a double that is a mess. It has a little mold on it and some rust on some of the under carriage parts. If you want a project guitar, I could strip some of the parts you don't need off of it, and sell it cheap, or sell it as is. I know some of the parts are worth money, so let me know what you need or don't need. One of the pick-up's is missing ( the wide type ). I can send pics to you.

I'll be third in line. I need endplate tuners for an older stationary bridge model and a C6 pickup.
Thanks Dave Z[This message was edited by Dave Zirbel on 29 December 2005 at 08:45 AM.] |

Dave Ristrim , I'm interested. Two 8's should be twice as good as one. What I need is the boby and legs and the stuff on top. The case too if you still have it. I don't need any of the underneath stuff. Let me know what you need. email me dbsb@ptmc.net |
