Just thought I'd let you all know that I took it upon myself to nominate Sneaky Pete for next years Steel Guitar Hall of Fame. I sent in the finished nomination form on November 4th and they have until August of next year to decide. Help me keep my fingers crossed! Cheers, Anita

He get's my vote...well, if I had one. Heck, I'm building an updated version of his guitar - a 400 with the newer pickups and changer. Same tuning and copedent.

BTW, I believe there's a club in Georgia already getting documentation and forms together. I'm sure they'll see this post and jump in.

I already offered, but I will again say I'll do anything I can - proofreading, paper shuffling, whatever. He's reason I'm playing.

If there's anybody who deserves it, it's Pete.

Thanks guys! I really want this to happen. Hey Russ, how ya doin'? It's great to know I have backup if need be. I'll keep you all posted with any news that I get. Oh, and Sneaky got the Lifetime Achievement Award at the LA Music Awards last Wednesday. I think it's going to be televised and will let you know when I find out.

I'm for it. As I begin to learn to play, I see that I'm more influenced/affected by Pete than most anybody else (including Jerry Garcia!). But seriously, he laid a lot of groundwork for popular session work.
A famous/infamous player, yet overlooked in many ways.

I played on a session with Rick Lonow(drummer with Burrito Deluxe and the'80s version of the Burrito Brothers)Monday and all we talked about between tunes was Pete!He is truly a one-off and should have been in the HOF years ago!

Sneaky deserves it

Anita, thanks for this worthwhile post. Pete certainly has my vote. It was a pleasure working with him in the 1960s. I know,firsthand,what a great talent he is.

He is one of the few true original sounding steel players and he had a huge impact on pop music in the 70's.He's the guy who got me and a lot of others started at that time and I still have not heard anyone who can approach his unique sound and style. He deserves to be in the SGHOF as much as anyone already there. (IMHO)

If Pete DOESN'T get in, SHAME on whoever gets to cast these "votes".. The mans style and sound is completely unique, totally original, and INSTANTLY recognizable,, Can't say that about even the very best of todays players... just MHO.. bob

You guys are great! And Steve: Rick Lonow is one of the nicest guys in the world. I just love him. And Russ: when you get your version of "Sister" on tape we would love to hear it. Sneaky really does deserve this and he thanks all of you here at Steel Guitar Forum.

I concur on his nomination. Sneaky's absence from the SGHF is a bit remarkable. He's certainly one of the most innovative players ever ... a true original. Good on you Anita.

Sneaky Pete is the cat's meow! Seems only right that he should be in the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.

He totally deserves it. BTW, the moment that gave me my pedal steel guitar epiphany, when I thought, my God, what is THAT sound, and which lead to my fascination with the instrument and interest in playing it, was the first time I heard Sneaky Pete's solo on Frank Zapppa's "It Just Might Be a One-Shot Deal" as a kid. He opened-up this wonderful world for me. That solo still sounds fresh afer all these years, a really alive and joyous phrasing and tone.

That's great. A Steel Guitar Hall of Fame without Pete would be... like a Hall with neither -a Guitar or Fame...
