one eyed player

Does anyone remember the one eyed steel player from Calif. in the 60's. I think he played with Winn Stewart. sp.Also a steel player that had a hit with a song where he used a Leslie and sounded like an organ. This was also in the 60's.

The late Jack Mooney of Winnipeg who was a very fine steel player often used a LESLIE speaker with his steel. It sure sounded neat !

Nope... don't recall that, but years ago, in the first version of Jeff Coffells "Plumb Country", we had a one armed blind drummer.
No kidding. He was pretty good until he had a few drinks. After that he would tend to get a little crazy.

Jim, I am not positive, but I don't think he played with Wynn Stewart. Wynn and Ralph moved to Vegas around November of 1961. Ralph had worked with Wynn for some time prior to that, and continued working with him in Vegas until Waylon hired him.
I have no idea who the one-eyed steel player was.

There was a steel player who had only one eye by the name of Gil DeLeal. Originally from the St. Louis area. Gil worked some with Doyle Holly, former bass player for Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, when Doyle went on his own for a while in the early 60's. They were working in the West coast area. Gil passed in the late 70's as I recall. Great picker. Regards, Jay Thompson

Thats who it was. I thought it was Gill something. I met him when he played in Santa Maria one time. Small world ain't it.

Jlm, As I recall Gil was playing a ZB Custom
back then. Probably influenced by Tom Brumley.

Thats what he had at that time. A real nice guy and great steel player. The other guy I was trying to rmember played with a leslie and could sound just like Booker T and the MG's. on the steel.I think he was playing with Janet Lynn at the time Thats been a long time ago and you know the old saying, the mind's the first thing to go when you start geeting old. Ha ha.

I think Frankie Hardcastle picked with him for a while around that time.Frank was a terrific player, he played a Fender, he had a new LeGrand the last time I saw him but preferred the fender, used an A6 tuning. While he played every thing, he could play tele licks and really sound like a tele.

There used to be a one-armed trumpet player in a Mariachi band that played at Mario's restaurant on the west side of San Antonio...
