I knew Gary and he was from Elizabethton, Tennessee, about 6 miles from Johnson City. He and his Father George Simerly, younger brother Culley, who played Bass, George's Brother "Red Eye" Simerly who sang with George, played a Saturday morning Radio music show called "The Barrel Of Fun" from the Bonnie Kate Theater in Elizabethton, Tennessee, my home town. Gary helped me by showing me the C-6th tuning and some pointers when I was first trying to leard to play in 1953. He and his family had a very good band and show. Gary was a very good Steel player. I have lost touch over the years and am not sure if they, or any of their family, are still in this area or if Gary and Culley are still alive?

I knew Gary in Vietnam in 1970, he played an Emmons D10. He worked in the Post Office on base and had about 18 years in the A.F. at that time. He was a good steel player and good friend.
