I saw the Stones here in Atlanta on Saturday and Ron played a steel. Mick left the stage, they set the steel way out front and Keith did one of his songs, “The Worst”. The guitar was a single neck Emmons with six pedals and no knees that I could see. No fancy work, but sounded great to me. And yea, they still rock!

Talk about the future of steel; more old guitar rockers are going to start carrying one of these contraptions around to show them off. Can't get any better than that.

Especially if he was just playing straight ahead simple phrasing that a novice can understand....

I saw the Stones when they played here in the twin cities.
and yes, Ron played the pedal steel. as you said, nothing fancy. but sure sounded nice and appropriate.

Ive been listening to Rons sliding since the sixties when I heard him on Rod Stewarts Gasolina Alley album.

Aw, man...I saw the Stones last Wednesday, and I was at the concession stand getting beer when Ron played pedal steel. Does anyone know if that is on their new album? By the way, the Stones still rock. This is the only time I have ever seen them live, but others said they were better this time than on past tours. They started with their new stuff. It is very hard traditional blues oriented. Mick played slide on an old Silvertone or Danelectro. Then they worked backwards through their hits. They were rocking hard all night, and obviously loving it. This is the way rock'n'roll should be - never stop, never slow down, never let it get boring - and never break up a great group to go out "on your own."

He's good, but he's no Jerry Garcia.

I think "The Worst" is on "Voodoo Lounge", I know it's not on the new one cause they did it on the last tour. There's plenty on this whole subject in previous threads too of course...

It's good to see that you have got your eye on things this morning. We don't need any conflicts about this thread.

By the way, Keith and Ron played a mix of Fender and Gibson guitars, and I didn't see anything but Fender tube amps - no Vox or Marshalls. And they hardly ever touched a stomp box.

The new Stones album is the best since the mid-70's. Excellent, seems like they have a little of the old attitude back.

"The Worst"....I love that tune. I don't think Ronnie plays the pedals on the new album. He was actually absent for some of the recording, apparently kicking a habit. Being a big fan, I'm sure glad he took care of it and is back on track. Such a great musician, and sketch artist too. He has drawn pictures of many great rock and blues legends. There's book he published called "The Works" which features his artistry. His commentary throughout the book is hilarious, and worth the purchase alone. He relates his experiences with these musicians, and the stories are priceless. His sense of humor really shines through.

We have a Ron Wood here on the Forum. Could it be? He's from the UK.

Saw the Stones in Tampa tonight. Ronnie backing up Keith on steel while Mick took a break. Just a great show. The Worst was the song and defintely off of Voodoo Lounge. jc

saw the Stones a month ago. Ron Wood was not smoking on stage or off.
perhaps his disaparence to kick a habit was the nicotine habit.
for years and years I saw Ronnie play with a cig in his hands. and as soon as he walked off stage a roadie had one lit for him.
Keith was the only one smoking.

I'd like to see "Woody" play that pedal steel with a Martini in his hand, the way Mike Myers used to portray him on Saturday Night Live.
