I live in SLC Utah, one of the prettiest places there is with the wasatch mountains a couple miles away. Youd think out here in the west youd find more steel players but not the case. Easy to work out here. Lotsa country music.

Thanks for the welcome.
James- I think Ive seen some of your bud stuff on house of wood. Buds are among the most addictive of the PSG thing. Yours must run deep as well.

I'll always be playin' country, as long as there is at least one live breathin' country fan to listen.

Me too James. There still seems to be plenty around here depending on what you consider "Country" . Some of the more recent stuff is more rock or r+b or even rap. This is all good and well but of course is not country. The band I play with most times (on tele) consists of guys who know the difference. Id play steel with them but the steel player in the band is way better than me. Oh well,at least Im pickin something. I have to get my steel fix with other outfits . Its all good.

Welcome to the forum, Mark. I don't know if I'm quite yet qualified to say that, but there you go anyway.

I know this guy personally and he did a great job playing steel at a recent local play called "Patsy Cline Forever"... Or was it "Patsy Cline Always"... Anyhow, it was like a six piece band and it was like a two week gig in front of thousands. But he's right - there aren't that many steel players in Utah. I think there needs to be a convention here or something to stimulate groath. Okay, let's be practical

But yeah, we're workin' on it!

Just one note.
Always Patsy Cline ran for a month (21 shows and 3 or 4 matinees) at the Grand Theatre in SLC Ut. which holds 1100. The place was usually full and people seemed to really appreciate the steel. The show is a perfect setting for PSG and was lots of fun to do. The band as usual was a bunch of guys ive known for a long timeand was like old times. The singer,Erica Hansen was just awesome and easy to work with. If you ever get a chance to do it jump on it.

Hi Mark and welcome aboard....it's about time .

If Mark isn't playin gigs he's doing session work. I recently had the opportunity to do a refinish project with Mark and I think he has now taken it to another step. For several months I had the opportunity to talk with Mark many many times. Heck I feel like I have known him my entire life. He will be a welcomed addition to the STeel Guitar Forum.

Regards,

Ray Walker

Welcome, Mark. I'm an old Utah Hillbilly myself. Worked up and down the Utah Valley from South Salt Lake (33rd) South. to Cedar City back to Green River to Dragerton, Price, Helper, Spanish Fork you name it. I was playing lead at the time with a steel player from Springville by the name of Dean Fulmer. He also drove a cement truck for the city. This was in the late 40's and early 50s. You are right on about the fantastic scenery. Wow, this more than I've said all day. Again, welcome.
