Bobbe, I think "Take me as I am or let me go" took out the transistors in the rental car stereo I just drove from Bradford, Pa. to Columbus, Ohio today. It just couldn't take the bass at the start of the tune
Seriously, there ain't nothin' better than a road trip with a good stereo and a bunch of good PSG music. The Masters is definitely one of them. I also got to listen to CD's 5 thru 10 of the Ray Price Box set, a bunch of early Buck Owens, and have come to the conclusion that:
1. Counterpoint is beyond me...
2. Blocking is beyond me...
3. Ear training for minors & augmenteds is beyond me...
Still it's fun to try

Thank you Ray, I don't think in terms of licks or styles actually, I just concentrate on the melody and the chord progressions. The melody is the driving force behind what I come up with to play, natually I do take liberties with creating hopfully intresting variations and trying to keep a listeners intrest while doing so. Just the pure melody only is pretty boring. It's the inflections and deviations that make these musical creations listenable. This is where taste comes in, sometimes I hit it, and then, sometimes I ---------->
But I always try, as did Jimmy Day, I'm proud to have had Jimmy Day on this album dividing the playing duties. This was Jimmy's last instrumental endevour before he died. I feel it was by far his very best.
His tone was strange but extreamly beautiful, he used a D-10 Mullen, wood cabinet, blue with a Webb amp. He was a total pleasure to work with on this project and I feel that this album should have recd' more aclaim because of his great talent and being his last effort of his life.
Tommy White also did a cameo on this CD, I don't need to tell you how wonderful that was!
Jimmy Day, I'm missing him,

I really enjoy the tab that Bobbe has, and I believe it's all written by the great Doug Jernigan. |

Bobbe,
The Masters CD is without a doubt one of the best to come along in a long time. I am fairly confident that you cannot, with reasonable care wear out a cd,if so,I would have to order another.
Thanks Bobbe....Bill |

You wear it out, I replace it free Charlie!
Yes, Doug does all my "Tabbing". He deserves all the aggravation! What a wonderful person Mr. Doug Jernigan is!
The entire steel world is blessed with his faith, playing and personality.
Thank you all, you are the greatest guys in the world.

Bobbe is not normal. No normal person can play all that stuff he does.... Also, his guitar is different than mine. I know because I have looked all over my guitar for the licks I have heard him play and they just ain't there....
Seriously. He is a great guy as well as being a wonderful player. I had a blast visiting with him this past summer.

My thoughts exactly. I was thinking (as I was listening to The Masters CD) that ear training ain't gonna do me any good 'cause those chords not only ain't from any book, they ain't from this planet
Gotta love 'em.[This message was edited by Ray Minich on 29 September 2005 at 09:06 PM.] |

Well guys, I have it from a reputable source that Bobbe, being an excellent steel mechanic himself, and alleged extra-terrestial, has somehow secretly invented a new space-age type of steel mechanism! This mechanism is what enables him to play such amazing things so effortlessly. He is also able to disguise it to look like an ordinary undercarriage. (I think there are nano-motors inside the changer and bellcranks that are friction powered and linked to brain implant sensors so that he only has to THINK about the changes he wants to play)
It obviously works...how else could an otherwise normal(?) human being do what HE does??
Of course, these allegations can't be proved. The technology is so far advanced that even NASA says it's a bunch of "poppycock"!! Personnally, I think Bobbe's playing is out-of-this-world!!....and tend to place some creedence to these conjectures.
Comeon Bro, 'fess up! Tell us the secret so we can all be super pickers without even trying!!!.............love ya, Bobbe....(just had to stir up a rumor to spice up your rep...ha, ha, ha) |

Just to set the record straight so that my previous post is not misleading to anyone, the chords (and notes and rests and beats and all that) to the Masters CD are written down and available in Bobbe's tab book to the CD. It's a must have for my library.
Of course the book was written by extraterrestrials [This message was edited by Ray Minich on 04 October 2005 at 08:01 AM.] |

Bobbe has helped a lot of us by publishing that fantastic tab. That CD is one of my favorite and to me the tab for that CD, IMO, has a lot of Jimmy Day stuff on it. |
