While all of you that went to St Louis are posting about this remarkable man, you've only touched on a part of his talent. Look at his web site, check the credits and discography, consider his ability as a producer, and you'll get a glimpse of what he's about.
Then consider his dedication to be at St Louis to support the steel community, knowing he had a show in Bandera, Texas on Sunday. Although we missed him in St Louis, we had front row seats at Bandera and enjoyed four hours of Bobby, along with Randy Reinhard on a '65 wrap around...Randy is an amazing player and has full command of his instrument. They did Wills, western swing, four four shuffles, some awesome waltzes, and killer ballads.
Later in the show, Jake Hooker came in and played bass. Since everyone is complaining about the state of country music, how about supporting these guys....and while I'm at it, call your stations and request Bobby's latest release. Four hours...I repeat, four hours of absolute majic. You missed it. |

I have seen Bobbys show. You can see the sheer joy in his face when he performs and he enjoys the pickers in his band as much as anyone when they blend as one on their axe and do some great picking. His set list is designed to keep the dancefloor full.
What a cake this guy bakes with the perfect blend of ingredients and cooking time. Buy his CD's and go to his gigs. His product is well worth it.

Hey, Larry,
We missed you in St. Louis. I wish I could have been in both places. You're right about everything you said about Bobby and his compadres. He caused me to lose a lot of sleep in St. Louis. I was up until 3:00am Friday night enjoying some of the best country music there is and then caught Bobby again on Saturday with Johnny Cox.
Hope to see you at the next show!

Larry.....did you have your traveling buddy Tim with you? By the way, if you get to catch Bobby on one of his own shows, you're in for a treat....back to back to back..zero down time between tunes....just can't say enough good things about our trip south. |

Larry, Yes, Tim went with me. We had a great weekend. Bobby will be at the Alvin Opry October 14 and I plan to go. I know he probably won't get to do more than six or eight songs but I know he will put on an outstanding show.

Bobby Flores has been a truly underrated talent in our music world for a few years and is now finally deservingly receiving the words of praise of his peers and the recognition of his fans. I can honestly say that Bobby sometimes is playing on about every other tune on my "Swignin' West" radio show. He is loaded with both talent and class.

I can't say enough good about Bobby Flores. He's my newest musical inspiration and I think he could be described as a "one man music factory". While talking with him in St. Louis it was also obvious that his personality matches his talent.
Isn't it a shame to know that there could be more people like him that we don't know about? |

All of you folks should pack up and come to Crowley, La. on September 17th. Bobby Flores will be there along with Pee Wee Whitewing and I'm previleged to be there with them. The show is family oriented with lot's of great entertainment for everyone and the Rice Theater is a great venue.

I must add my kudos for Bobby. As a steeler, I've always been nuts over twin fiddles, but Bobby's tone, technique, and taste is the cream that has risen to the top. I can't get enough and I can't wait to get to TX this winter to get some more BF band in person. Dale

Dale,
Your sound on your two CDs also have my listeners asking for more. You do a wonderful job with your smooth steel and vocal and Melissa's fiddle.

I agree Skip, IMO they are all great songs on this CD; especially the way he does "I Just Destroyed The World". I'll bet I've played just that cut countless times. I wonder if he did this with C6th? I've already annoyed him with one e-mail that he was so kind to answer; just great clean picking, can't say enough. I'd like to catch his show sometime. |

Charles, " I Just Destroyed The World", I believe, is one of two songs where he played steel himself on that CD. He played C6 on the intro and verse 1 and E9 on the rest. Great CD!!! |

Hey Roy you guys need a broken down old guitar picker? I guess not Bobby Flores can do it all. Plays great fiddle, steel and guitar and sings like a bird. It sure was a lot of fun working and visiting with him in St.Louis. What a talent, and a great guy to be around. I know you guys will have a great time. Wish I could be there. Tell Pee Wee I said "HEY". Best to all, Bobby |

Hi Larry. Judy and I pooped out and didn't make it back to Bandera. Bobby is a great performer then you add Randy and Jake. That has to be as good as it gets. Did Bobby play any steel? He mentioned that he might set his up too. |

Merle, I can play that song on the E9th but I just wonder if one can get some of that on E9th extended, with the two extra lower strings? Maybe Dave Ristrim or someone who plays a "12" could answer that. When I first heard it I thought of Curly's picking, I like it that much. Bobbe Seymour has that tab for the E9 if anyone else is interested. I wonder if it has been tabbed for the C6th? |

Many Large Thanks you guys! I truly appreciate the words of encouragement. The steel community/Forum have always been the Best in the world for supporting players and those of us trying to play, and it means so very much to me. I can't thank you enough for your support and kind words. I deeply appreciate it more than I can say. |

My wife and I had a wonderful time listening to Bobby and his great band on Friday nite at the steel convention. We even did a little dancing in the back of the room. Bobby plays fiddle so beautifully and his voice is a splendid instrument. And what a band he had. An inspiration.
Let me put in a plug for Marti Brom's new CD Sings Heartache Numbers. Bobby and Dickey Overby make this terrific CD a must-have for real country enthusiasts. The girl can sing and Bobby and Dickey complement her voice perfectly.
Keep swingin',

Roger...Bobby did not set up his steel....he'd had a long weekend already but his vocals were so strong and true. BTW, Shattenberg did twins with him...the first time we saw him was with you at Quihi in '01...and there is absolutely nothing better than twin fiddles and great steel guitar. I know that most of you THINK you caught Bobby in St Louis, but you missed it..trust me. |

Bobby: As always it was a great pleasure to see you and talk with you a short while in St. Louis. You are so blessed with talent, and such a wonderful person too.
Thank you for the autographed CD--I love it.
Thanks again,
Barbara

If you want to read a review that I wrote on Bobby's fantastic "Too Many Rivers" CD it is on my "Swingin' West" web site at www.swinginwest.com
I am also playing every cut from the CD on "Swingin' West" for the world to hear. Unfortunately, Bobby is so good that the depth and class of the CD is no surprise. I have come to expect it from this incredibly talented man.

Well, I just have to join in here with my two cents worth...Russ and I had been hearing about
"Bobby Flores" for quite awhile before seeing him for the first time with Dickey Overby and Jake and Justin in St Louis. I decided then that he was my favorite fiddle player; I believe he could play all those sweet string parts, himself,to "I Wont Mention It Again"! That's my all time favorite "uptown" song of Ray Price. The only thing that song ever needed was steel added in (or at least mixed in properly)and darned if he couldn't take care of that too! Now, we were not ready for what a singer he is, but we sat listening, shaking our heads in pleasant amazement at his talent in the after hours room in St. Louis this year. Bobby and Johnny Cox, Junior, Jim, and Billy...what a band! What an absolute treat! And, what a blessing it is to know the difference when you're hearing it!!!! Could you guys repeat that "set" next year, too?
We loved every minute!
Laney (and on this, 'you know who' is in full agreement) |

So I said to my wife today; "want to go to "?" and get some fried chicken"? "No," she said "you know I don't like that, it's too greasy for me"; so I get in the car and put on Bobby's CD, "Too Many Rivers" and turn the sound up like I like it and just go slowly down the road. Takes me back to my roots....... |

"Bobby Flores" indeed what an amazing talent this man is, as well as being one of the nicest guys in the world. His recordings are some of the very best I've ever heard in my life, and the type of material he does is something I can't seem to ever get enough of. Bobby put on a great show in St. Louis, and I hope to see him again another time real soon. |
