I couldn't locate the earlier post on this topic but recently ran across photo's of one of Canada's greatest steel players of all times........none other than: Len Ryder
He's a funny and sincere person, a really fine vocalist and makes that Sho-Bud of his jump thro' hoops. What great Sho-Bud TONE.
His name is "emblazened" right there on the front corner just below the Sho-Bud logo.

This fine gentleman from just north of the border also SINGS his heart out while playing steel.

Fact is, when I get mine, I think I'll change my name to Charlie Carter. For a starter.

I don't know who this guy 'Bud Emmons' is, but I have his name on two of my guitars. He must have really been an egomaniac (or just a Sho-off).

Funny Larry: I've got the same name on the front of mine, or should I say both of them.(AND PROUD OF IT) This guy must really get around. It's quite a step from here to Florida.

No need for a name on the front of your axe. If you are famous, they willl know your name; if you are not famous, they won't care what your name is.

Hey Barry! cool idea how about a Mitsuo-Bud or a Fuzzy Emmons? Maybe we should brush up
on our Nihongo a little. Good to see your post and hope you are doing well and staying healthy. TJH

Mine has "MARLEN" written on the front. I think Leonard Stadler said he caught it while trolling off the south coast of Florida. I think at the time, he was trying to catch one with the "POSSUM" logo for Jennings or Farris. He was using a persimmon for bait.

I was going to put my name on both of my guitars but a couple of guys called Zum and Carter beat me to it !! Now that is really bad manners, going around putting your name on other peoples guitars !

I have my name on my steel because I'm a sign painter. This has brought up the topic of lettering many times and I have gotten jobs because of it. Larry

Thanks for the kind words. The reason my name is on my axe is that at my age and sinking memory, when I misplace the instrument, hopefully somebody will bring it back to me.

Not that this is directly on the subject, but what really peaves me is the large CHEVROLET or DODGE, etc., names on the back of p/u trucks....no place to put your own company name. Owners should charge the auto manufacturers for the advertising space taken up.

I can't help but wonder if some of these and earlier comments have caused the greats like Bud Issacs; Speedy West; Joaquin Murphy; Bob Meadows; Johnny Siebert; Hank Thompson; Ferlin Husky and Merle Travis to feel badly......guilty or whatever, for having had their names emblazened on the front of their guitars.
They've had their day in the BIG LIGHTS so I truly doubt it has had any significant impact seeing where all this negative stuff has been coming from.

Larry, I have that Buddy Emmons name on one of mine too but only half of it on the other one. I have one that says MSA on the front but has Bud Carters name signed underneath.

Players name on the front was once very popular but not done much anymore.

When I was in the USAF I was playing one night at an Army NCO club. Two guys came up to me like they were making a request but they were actually putting a huge "Go Navy" bumper sticker on the front of my steel. I didn't know it until we took a break.

My old girl is a Bud Carter when she's upside down. When I stand her up, she becomes an M.S.A. I won't put my name on her. Don't want to mess up a good thing.
