Anyone else out there own the recently released Son Volt live on Austin City Limits DVD? Eric Heywood is featured quite nicely on it with many close ups and tasty solos. I know the performance is eight years old now, but it's nice to see him get the spotlight a little more. I really like his unique tone.

Check out Richard Buckner's "Since". It's been one of my favorites since I purchased it 7 years ago. Heywood plays some nice stuff on it.

Jud, I haven't seen that DVD... could you describe what kind of rig Eric was using?
On the band's first few albums, his tone had lots of tube amp "grit," but it wasn't bright. I've always wondered what gear he used.

He plays a Williams through a Vox head and a cabinet with 2 12's I think. It definitely sounds gritty. Not your typical PSG sound. It works well with the "not your typical" band. I had the pleasure of seeing him play with Richard Buckner twice. It's what inspired me to play PSG.

That'd be a Vox AC-50, I believe.............
