steel guitar on new Elton John song

Post by Damien Odell »

I dunno what the song is called - but John Laws in Sydney has been playing it for the last coupla days. Not a bad song, but it features prominent Pedal Steel throughout which sounds great.
Wonder who is playing it.......

Could it be long time band member John Jorgensen?
Just a guess.

Back in the 1970's one of Elton John's songs featured the pedal steel. As I recall, the song was "Country Comfort".

"Tiny Dancer" was an Elton John hit in the '70s with beautiful pedal steel. It's one of the reasons I took up the instrument. I heard what it could do on something that was not country or even country rock (not that there is anything wrong with steel on those genres, I love them too).

pretty sure Country Comfort (which among other steel songs on rock stations at that time made me love the sound of steel) was done by Gordon Huntley
[This message was edited by jim milewski on 05 May 2005 at 12:36 PM.]

I'm not sure if 'Country Comfort' was Gordon (Huntley, not 'Humphrey') - most of EJ's early stuff was BJ Cole.

It was JD Maness, and he got it on the first take.

I played that song "Tony Danza" with Elton John and band at the Palomino club. I don't think Elton noticed I was playing, but Stevey Johnson was pleasant.

Also forgot to say,Albert Lee & Hogans Heroes did a great version of Country comfort with Peter Barron (Eltons former Drummer & H.H drummer) taking lead vocals
