We all talk about our picks,bars.. all that hand stuff.. What about the feets??.. NEVER hear about those!.. I can only play steel in my sox, or very thin moccassins... I have had the SAME pair in my gear case since 1978!!,, SERIOUS!!... They are rotten,moldy,decrepit,infested,decomposing, and they look bad too!... Every once in a while I would take them off and hold them under the nose of some girl in the audience just to show what a class act I really am.

I see some players play in cowboy boots and I have NO conception of how that could possibly be done... When I started playing back in the 70's I practiced at home 8-12 hours a day in my sox.. When the time came to play out I found I could only play with something VERY thin on my feet.

I also suffer from REALLY stinkin rotten feet ,so I had to buy the moccassins about 26 years ago... Its about time to put a radiation suit and ventilator on,and burn them in the yard. I wonder how you guys can play with regular shoes and boots on,,, PLEASE tell me.

Oh yeah.. one time MANY years ago, the guitar player kept looking at me, laughing so hard he almost peed himself... Anyway, after awhile I discovered one of my toes was sticking out of a hole in my sock while I was playing.. He found this HYSTERICAL... see.. Those moccasins probably rate right up there with a week old fish thats been out in the sun!! LOL...

Really though, I like the heel and thin soles on a pair of Justin Roper boots.

Learned in cowboy boots, and thats all I can play in these days. I guess its whatever you get used to. But my favorite pair are all worn out and beat up and smelly! Does that count,Bob?

I tried to wear Cowboy Boots at a gig Once. I didn't take into account the heals. I could sit under my steel with them on. Luckly I had a pair of sneakers in my car.
I remember I was hanging out with Mike Ihde and he thought it was weird cause I was playing in Flip-flops.What ever works...

At home, it's bare feets! Playing out, I usually wear my sneakers, or my blunt-toed motorcycle boots.

Can't seem to do the right things when wearing my western boots!

To compound matters, I'm "slew-footed" (opposite of pigeon-toed) so my feet are in pretty strange places to acommodate that little hurdle!

I have two pair of low heeled Wellington boots by Justin I wear. I have a show pair and an everyday pair. I've tried sneakers and they work well, but when you have to change instruments on a show and you are stage front with a suit and sneakers on it looks kinda tacky. Cowboy boots work, but they really take a lot of getting used to. I could never feel my pedals with cowboy boots on. I noticed Jeff Newman in his videos wears classy cowboy boots. Keith Hilton plays barefooted or in his stocking feet as do a lot of steel people. I think Roger Blevins of the Baldknobbers wears cowboy boots. It's all in what you get used to I guess. Whether you are barefooted, wear socks or combat boots the idea, as Larry the Cable Guy would say is to, "Git 'er done"!

I practice at home in thin-soled bedroom slippers. When I play out (which is only at the local steel jams I host) I wear running shoes. The thicker soles of the running shoes throw me off a bit and I mis-pedal from time to time, but I'm not ready to play the jams in bedroom slippers.

I play in sneakers. Right now it's a pair of boy's hi-top Keds that I leave sitting under my steel when not in use. I can't play barefoot, in socks, or even bedroom slippers (I've tried all three) because my feet are too small.

Luckily, my one flirtation with wearing cowboy boots on a gig occured three blocks from home, so I could go home between sets and change footwear. How do you guys keep your pointy toes from getting hung up in the pedal rods ? Yeesh !

Cowboy boots,have been using them for as long as I can remember.
I tried in sneakers or barefoot but I like those boots best.They cost me a small fortune over here but it's worth it.$350 for a pair of boots is big money if you ask me.Maybe somebody can send me some a bit cheaper huh?

I play in ballet slippers. Not only are they great for feeling the bar, but they're very cute. (Warning: players from Texas should NOT try this!)

I am really comfortable playing in topsider boat shoes,
but did the Disney / Billy Bobs gig in cowboy boots.
Like the heels, but the toes are too pointy.

Can't play in sox, some pulls are WAY too hard for that. like pedal 4 on both necks.
C pedal ; 2 pulls E9, and a Crawford /Jernigan ; 4 pulls C6

I can play equally lousy in boots, mocasins, or shoes. I remember getting into the habit once of playing in my socks and then I couldn't play with shoes on for awhile. So its just in what you're used to I guess.

A pair of Nike Air sneakers, save 'em specifically for playin' 'cause they're narrower than my steel toed sneakers or them bigfoots from Wally World.

My girlfriend was watching me play the other day and said to me, "where did you get thoese alligator shoes?" I replied, "I'm not wearing any shoes".

The last time I was in Bobbe's store, we were chatting in his office up front and I mentioned that I really liked his new leather briefcase. I happened to spot it under the front of his desk. It was no briefcase folks...left foot...sockless. Scary.
