Cow Boy Churchs With Steel

Cow Churchs?....ahhh yeah...i prefer to call them churchs that enjoy "Country Gospel Music". That is all we do in these here parts. I have a hard time digesting that
contemporary no melody stuff. We do Dottie Rambo, Pastor Mike Purkey, Elvis type of gospel. As well as the quartets that come in. We have country gospel houses of worship all over up here. Nothing new here in Northern Michigan. Now you being from Texas...how about a "Western Swing Gospel Music Church"....awwwwww haaaawwww!

DVM Wade Markham has a church in Vinita, Ok called 'Cowboy Junction'. This is a first class facility complete with an attached restaurant...I'm a witness they serve a great steak.
While other churches struggle to put up any numbers, these folks are consistantly hitting 5 to 600 and when they bring in someone like Del Way, there'll be 800.
They have an arena next door and they rope (team roping) after church on Monday nights...the catch is , in order to participate in the roping , you must attend church that night. Cool , dontcha think. At this point , they do not have a Steel in the band.

sounds really cool guys..i like that idea..we don't rope or ride at church..but hey...whatever it takes to get them in..sounds really neat..i love the idea!

We have two churches in our area that are starting to play more and more country gospel and it sure seems to be working. Only one of the churches has a steel player; however, he is not exactly one of God’s soldiers. He does a bar gig on Friday and Saturday nights and enjoys immensely, the bountiful liquid amber that is offered to him. Under the threat of being cleaned out, by his wife, he plays with the church group on Sundays

The church board of the church that my wife and I attend have discussed the country gospel sound several times; however, we have a music leader who is more than a bit staunch on leaving things the way they are. This guy wants the steel sound but with no picks and 90% of the steel’s work is in harmonics. Hey, he is the boss and he has sure forced me to learn to play some beautiful harmonic scales.

We have several Cowboy churches here in my area and more popping up. I know there's a steel player in at least one of them. They just started down here a couple of years ago but they are growing like crazy. Some friends and I did the music a few months back on a cowboy church and they really liked the old time gospel/country standards.

Love & War In Texas, Plano & Grapevine Tx.
have started a cowboy service free breakfast
@ 9:00 & sevice at 9:30. The only band they have is who every plays on Sat. night is there on Sunday morning & It's usually just a singer & Rythum guitar only. Different singer every week. Plano service is growing&
The Grapevine L & W has only opened about a month ago. They are trying to get one going At Hank's in McKinney havn't heard to much about it.

Cowboy Churches are all over down here in Texas...several in my area. I played at one last night. It was held in a huge, really nice horse barn on a working ranch near my home. We had mandolin, accordian, guitar and bass - no drummer. I had a really good time playing the old gospel stuff and hymns.

I just can't do the contemporary thing...not my taste.

I know that Frank Jurasak plays for a cowboy church in Brenham, Tx. There is a new one on Hwy. 32 near Canyon Lake, but we haven't had a chance to go visit. There is one on Hwy. 20 near Bastrop that is having gospel music tomorrow and Sunday. They are an up and coming thing now. Whatever it takes to reach people for Jesus, is a good thing.

There is a GREAT one in Marion, hwy 78 between Seguin and San Antonio. They have an annual free chicken fried steak dinner and concert by "The Relations Quartet",,,,,it's a don't miss type thing!!

I think maybe the one in Marion you are refering to is The Country Church. I don't think they really consider themselves a "Cowboy Church", but they are really growing and reaching people for the Lord that a lot of traditional churches can't. I remember when Bro. Butch Ikels started that one in his home in Marion.

You will find one of the best in Nashville out near the Opry. It is in the Texas Troubadour theater. Dr. Harry Yates and Dr. Joanne Cash Yates are the pastors. They have had good services everytime we have been there and we have been there several times. A superb band and great singers are the norm at this church. Most of the times we have been there Mr. Duane Marrs has been playing. The last time we were there Mr. Doug Jernigan was playing. This should tell you what the band sounds like. Dr. Harry Yates does a great job preaching and he don't play either, it is plain. Dr. Joanne Cash Yates sings great,too.
Anytime we are in Nashville on Sunday, it is imperative that we attend church there.
Anytime any of you are in the area you will certainly be blessed to attend.
By the way, they are on the internet and WSM,I think on Sunday mornings. They have a website if you are interested in looking at it.

I live in Eastern Oregon, and there's Cowboy Churches all over. I play steel and dobro in "CrossRoad", a Christian Country band, and we stay busy doing these services. Some of the gatherings are held in barns, at ranch houses and grange halls. They usually have a BBQ or potluck too. It's a great time!

Now if we could just get one or two in Pennsylvania....Don't laugh too hard. Actually there is also of gospel and bluegrass in this area. It just seems that no one wants to hear it on Sunday morning. This is one of my biggest gripes. There are not enough Southern Gospel groups in my area. Too many churches going with contemporary music. What is even worse is that most of the groups that are in my area don't carry a band with them,opting for can music.

Hey guys. I'm new, anyways I play Steel for a southern gospel group from Chipley Florida, I also play lead guitar. We have been playing for nine years, we are currently in the process of releasing a national single. I am 20 years old and everyone in our band is my family but three.
