Who played Steel on Faron Young's "Goin' Steady" - the version cut in the 1960's. (He cut in 1952 previously)
Also, who knows who played the Baritone guitar on that cut?
Good pickin!

I was just going through some
Faron Young albums looking for
some new songs and remembered
some one had ask a question about who
the Steeler and Guitar players were/are
I'm not sure if this gets to the song you
ask about ! But ! one album
was The Deputies and its the only one that
give credit to the players .
Steel --- Darrell Horneberger ----
Fantastic player to !!!
Rhythm Guitar -- Doug Grieves
Guitar -- Mickey Smathers
May-be the ones your looking for !!

Tim:
Faron recorded that song in 1961 on Capitol label (ST1634) with Ben Shauefele on steel and cut it again in 1971 on Mercury label (SR61337) with Lloyd Green on steel.
LPs' are: The Young Approach - 1961 Capitol
Step Aside - 1971 Mercury

Bob, the album your looking at was a band album we did years ago. Darrel was our steel player and Mickey and Doug were added for the band album.

Joe Vincent was the steel player on "Goin' Steady" in the fifties. He is still in Nashville but did enjoy several years with Faron in his first years on Capitol Records.
Joe's full name is, " Joe Mack Vincent".
He played a Triple neck fender on all but the last Faron records, then he played Faron's triple neck eight string Bigsby. This was in the '50s.

The only version of the "Going Steady" I have heard had Lloyd Green playing steel. He sure played some great licks and his tone was superb. |
