I don't know if anyone else gets "Sound Stage" on PBS in there town, but in Chicago they air it. It is actually filmed here in Chicago. Anyway, last night they had the Allison Krauss + Union Station show on. Man is Jerry Douglass one MONSTER dobro player. TONS of great footage of him playing. Lots of closeups. Anyone else see this?

I saw it, and I agree, it was great. I saw the Jerry Douglas band play at the Old Town School, and MAN! that guy cooks! But it hardly looks like he's doing a thing. Effortless.
One thing I don't like about AK&US: too many ballads. Yeah, she's got an angelic voice, but hey, their a bluegrass band. They should rip it up more. That concert especially focused on her ballads. That's fine tho', Jerry still played beautifully. |

If you like Jerry's stuff, do yourself a favor and get the new AKUS live DVD. One of the best concerts I've ever seen recorded. Lots of ballads and some real fire too- and Jerry's up front and featured all the way. The obvious respect and admiration of the whole band toward Jerry is nice to see. Also a bonus disc with lots of interviews, road footage, etc. And reasonable $. There's also an audio-only version on CD.

Hey, Mark Ardito:
Who ya playing with these days? I caught a set you played with some singer-songwriter way back when....Had the Beat Kitchen (or was it Gunthers?) all lit up with Christmas lights. I think you were playing on a Starter back then. |
